  • Meg's Direct APO shipping $$$$$$ for parcel post

    Just tried placing an order with Meg's Direct to my APO address. I sent an email to customer service asking if they could use USPS Priority Mail instead of Parcel Post. Last time I ordered, Parcel Post took 5 weeks to arrive - even though an APO is still a US address.
    They said they didn't offer Priority Mail as an option. My question - why not? If you're using USPS, they offer Priority Mail. Not only that, but shipping is pretty expensive at $7.50 for having to wait over a month for the order. I cancelled and I'm pretty disappointed...

    Have you tried autodetailingsolutions.net or detailing.com? Both have low (sometimes free) shipping rates and both have very good expedited shipping.

      Won't work with ADS - this is from ADS' website:

      International Orders

      We do not ship outside of the USA. If you are visiting the USA, have a freight forwarding company or a relative/friend inside the US you can use our shopping cart and pay with your countries currency. Please provide your US shipping address when checking out, or send a follow up email with the address. Please see the list below of all prohibited products that may not be shipped out of the US through the USPS.
      APO

      We do not ship to APO addresses.

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Might try detailing.com. This is from their website:
      Pricing
      Some shipping quotes given online are not necessarily accurate and may need to be recalculated manually. This most commonly occurs with orders shipped outside the 48 contiguous states, orders shipped to APO/FPO addresses, orders including hazmat items, or orders including bulk/oversized items.
      In the event of any additional shipping charges or alterations to your shipping total, we will attempt to contact you and your order will be held pending your approval of any changes.
        Shipping difficulties associated with shipping to APO's, PO boxes, etc. are a direct result of the shipping industry not Meguiar's Direct or any other company. When Meguiar's used to fulfill and ship their own orders we did not offer shipping to APO's or P.O. boxes at all because both UPS and FedEx will not deliver to these address types. Meguiar's Direct, our current distributor in Connecticut, has more options than we ever did. We understand the frustration, but this is not unique to Meguiar's. In my experience your best bet is to make arrangements to have orders shipped to a family member or friend.
          One possibility is there are certain "hazardous" materials, including all aerosols, that can't be sent by air, and priority mail probably has to be sent by air in most cases.
            This is correct - only insofar as we MUST use USPS because they're the only ones the government will allow to ship to APO. You're right this isn't unique to Meguiar's - that's why I chose them, because they DO ship to APO. My problem is that if Meguiar's Direct has a contract with USPS, why can't they do Priority Mail? It's the one of their standard shipping options. I would have the same argument with any other shipping provider - it's like paying for a service you can't use.
            Priority Mail is not expedited service; it only guarantees a spot on the plane within a certain time frame. Since APOs are run by the Army, if it's not Priority Mail, it's Space-Available mail, which means it really might be a month before it gets here, when I'm basically paying a Priority Mail rate at $7.50.
            It's frustrating having to pay for shipping twice if I have it shipped to a family member or friend. What if I had to do that with everything? The $7.50 to my parents, then another $7.50 to me. $15 shipping for $30 worth of product doesn't seem like a good deal to me. And I shouldn't have to wait until I have a $100 order to inconvenience myself like that.
            This has been a long-standing gripe of mine about many vendors who don't ship to APOs - it's hard enough to find one that will do it. It's now harder to find one willing to send items Priority Mail.
              Never been to detailing.com - but it looks promising. Thanks for the link!
                Re: Meg's Direct APO shipping $$$$$$ for parcel post
                Two days ago I sent an email to Jason at Customer Service and asked him to please cancel the order since they couldn't offer Priority Mail. Not only did he not cancel my order, the shipping is now somehow $7.95 instead of $7.50 - I don't know if it's parcel post or not.
                I really enjoy Meguiar's products, but this purchase puts a bad taste in my mouth for Meguiar's Direct. Think I'll find another online retailer for Meg's products.
                  I am sorry for your understandable frustration. I am not sure what happened here, but if you can provide me with your name and/or order number I can do some investigation. Depending on how much time elapsed between ordering and emailing your order may have already been to far in the shipping process to cancel. Regardless, at some point the Meguiar's Direct rep should have informed you of that. Again, please send me your info via a pm or email and I will see what I can do.
                  As far as shipping rates I don't understand the confusion. Hopefully just a simple misunderstanding. The shipping rates are posted on the website and are based entirely on the amount of the purchase. I assume the total for your products was between $20 and $40. For future reference here is the chart of shipping charges...
                  $0.00 - $19.99$6.95
