  • Clay Smudging

    Can't take it no more!

( I have tried more lube, less lube with the supplied product.)

    White Clay.
Never had a problem with Clay Magic.

Please change over to what they use.

    A BIG Meguiars fan!

    Hi David,

One quick question, which clay are you using,
    • * Quik Clay System
      * Mild Clay in our Professional Detailer Line
      * Aggressive Clay in our Professional Detailer Line

Also, do you know roughly how old the clay you're using is? Meguiar's has replaced all of our clays with dramatically improved formulas.

aaahaaaa, thanks Mike, now I know why I had so much trouble with what I bought from the detailers shop. I bought the mild pro detailer clay. Came with 2 bars in the jar. Any chance of getting a replacement for the 1 new one I have left? THis stuff was a nightmare to use, smeared everywhere, no matter how much detail spray or even tried GC car wash soap diluted with water. Worked better on the latter but was actually thinking of throwing away the one I have left rather than go throught that again. A replacement would be awesome! You should have me in your customer data base in Coral Springs, Florida 33065

          Thanks Mike,
You are so right! Just thought it would be easier going thru you without going thru the whole thing again.
          Kind regards,
          joel
UPDATE: just spoke with Jason and it's all taken care of. You might think of having your customer care team do trianing for Chrysler Corp. as their "care" is non-existent.
          GREAT JOB! and happy holidays!

I have not tried the newest Meguiar's Clay as nobody here stocks it. I use the Clay Magic and it works very well, plus it does not require nearly as much lube as the old Meguairs Clay did.

I have used the Professional Overspray Clay and it is pretty good. The Clay Magic is easier to find. When I need to clay it is usually an "emergency," the result of massive tree sap or rail dust contamination.

If Meguiars could invent a sealant that repels tree sap and rail dust I would happily pay $100 a bottle for it! For some reason, this last summer was absolutely ridiculous with tree sap!

              Mike,
It was the white Quick Clay System.

Think I got it this summer. It gets too soft. The paint is clean though.

Have you tried it with different lube? I love the quick detailer for quick detailing, however I like Smart Inspection for clay lube. I simply spray it on heavy, clay the section, then wipe it off with an extra big microfiber drying cloth. I haven't had any smear problems with that setup.

Check your clay temperature or the surface of the car. I've notice that if you leave the clay in the sun for a while (even if it is cold), it will smudge.

I've never noticed the clay in the Quik Clay System to get too soft. Each Saturday at our Detailing 101 classes we use a lot of clay so I have a lot of first hand experience with the clay in this kit.

Here's something interesting that happened at one of the classes however, because the Meguiar's Quik Wax is in the same color, size and shape bottle, and because we often have multiple bottles on the table, one time one of the attendees grabbed Meguiar's Quik Wax and used it instead of Quik Detailer. It caused the clay to become soft and smeary. Now we wait till the claying portion of the class is over to bring the Quik Wax out of the supply cupboard.

Why don't you call Customer Care at 1-800-347-5700 and tell them about this thread and what you experienced and we'll send you a new Quik Clay System to replace the one you have.

ive used the Quick Clay System as well and never had any problems, nor have i experienced the clay being too soft or anything, i'm quite happy with the system...although i work in a shop so the sun doesnt hit anything anyways. Definately satisfied with meguiars products, and so are the customers although i did have a sap problem as well, required very careful scraping with a knife and a little extra scratchX in those spots.
