  • Ultimate Wipe Quality

    Hi:

Finally got to open my package of 20 ultimate wipes.

Unfortunately I am very disappointed in the quality of the product.

A high percentage of the wipes have problems with the cut edges.

Some have the hard plastic edge problem; while others are almost an 1/8" out of square. If you look at the edge you can easliy see that the machine cutting the edge has moved over at least two or three rows.

While the edge strightness is not a big problem by itself; I feel that the manufacturer of this product has some major problems.

However, the hard plactic edge issue is a major problem. The cut edge of these wipes should be just as smooth to the touch as the uncut edge. These are not.

I have a black color vehicle so scratching is a major problem that I have to deal with. These wipes are not going to touch my paint.

Someone at Meguiar's needs to evaluate this supplier.

    Regards,

    KTruck

    KTruck:

Thanks for your post and I'm very sorry about the experience that you've had with this product. I've forwarded your concern on to the folks in customer service and they should be getting in touch with you very soon. Further, I believe that this is probably an isolated incident as I own oodles of the new UW towels and none have had such a problem.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention. Please check back here in the near future as Tom McDonald should be in contact soon.

    Thanks,
    RP

      Hi KTruck,

I'll forward this link to the person in charge because it's important that he sees this feedback. I will say this, since we have switched over to the new style microfiber, it's all we've been using in the Training Garage and we have experienced zero problems with the edges. The edges are cut with a laser, (I think), and after a wash or two they become as soft as the rest of the microfiber.

I will do some checking into this because this question/issue came up before.

I had the exact same issue (but the thread on it is gone). When I washed them, the miscut threads got all lumpy and hard and got all over all my towels that I washed with them. It was quite a pain to remove them.

My edges were also frayed and hard. I trimmed them down and they towels have been fine since. I have yet to notice any scratching issues with them, but they did require more effort to use than just washing them and using.

One thing for sure, we appreciate your feedback on our new microfibers. I order two cases each week for our classes for placement in the goodie bags. I often receive e-mails back from the people that attend the classes, sometimes months later and to day, I have never had any one mention any issues.

Once the new microfiber polishing cloths were available in distribution, we switched the Training Garage over to them for and so far, we have not experienced any problems with them. But, that doesn't mean there aren't any problems, that's why the feedback is so important.

I did find out that the edges are cut with a “Hydro-jet” which causes no burning of the cloth. I was also told that in testing, this towel was tested on a large number of cars here at Meguiar's by directly rubbing the edge on the paint and no one saw any scratching as a result.

Feedback like this is important, and I can guarantee you, people are listening, (and reading).

              Mike:

I have already sent the wipes back to your Portland, TN warehouse. After I made the post yesterday I packaged them up and mailed them. They will be arriving at your warehouse on Friday by USPS.

I live on the east coast, I can give you a call tomorrow (9/1) after 12:00 PM EDT. Will be happy to discuss the problem with you.

I have been shopping around for MF towels for a couple of weeks now. I have tried some other brand towels but liked the Meguiar's MF towel the best. The MF yarn that they are made from seems to do the best job. I tested them removing wax and the ultimate wipe did the best job.

However, the edge cutting process does seem to have a problem. None of the other edgless MF towels that I purchased to try had the rough look and feel to the cut edges.

This seems to be a random problem as not all of the towels that were in the 20 pack that I received had edge problems. Based on that I can see how some towels will not show this problem. These towels may have been from a bad lot, who knows.

Good to hear that you will be taking a look at the problem, that is all I really wanted you to do. Also, thanks for responding to my concerns about the product.

I still feel that the ultimate wide is a great MF towel and look forward to getting my replacement towels.

Thanks to all at Meguiar's for the great customer service.
