  • Oxidation?

Below is a pic of my girlfriend's 2001 Ford Escort. She bought it like this and was talking about having it repainted some day. I hit it with the clay bar and started to remove some of it but not all of it. I was getting a lot of red from the paint on the clay bar also. Is there anything else I can do that will get rid of this? I do not have any rotary tools so this will ll be done by hand.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Re: Oxidation?

That looks like a badly failed clear coat to me - not just oxidation. Unfortunately, what this car really needs is a new paint job. You could in theory remove all of the dead clear coat, but then the color coat will oxidize very quickly (especially red) and turn pink.

To add to the problem, doing this by hand sounds like a recipe for a busted shoulder or two.

Ok thanks. That's what I thought it was at first until I decided to try the clay bar out. Then I was not sure after that. So I guess I was just taking the clear coat off.
