Clear Coat is a type of paint that would be applied by the paint shop or body shop that did the work.

Do you know what kinds of paint they used?

Re: To create clear coat by hand

Well, you will have either single stage paint, where there is a primer and a color layer. Or you will have clear coat paint, which is primer, the color layer, and then a coat of clear paint on top.

The car care products then are used to remove dirt/swirls/scratches from whichever type of paint you have, and to protect the paint with wax. Basically, the wax wears off instead of the paint, and you re-wax every few months.

Maybe you were confusing the clear-coat paint with car wax? Or perhaps the terms got lost in translation.

Applying clear coat by hand does not sound right. I think you are talking about a wax of some kind, like Murr said.

I suspect you are referring to applying a synthetic (polymer) sealant like NXT, often referred to as "paint protection" by dealers and others. In reality it is just a synthetic "wax" (as compared to natural carnuba waxes).

Re: To create clear coat by hand

If the rest of your car has clear coat, the shop that painted it would have applied clear coat too.

I know there are also products that you can apply to a new car (and maybe a new paint job) that create extra protection around the hood and nose of the car.

I found this one for example.

Re: To create clear coat by hand

Regarding the claims made by X-Cote, Restorfx, Shine On, Opti-Coat, etc. offering a hand applied clear coat, I would like to add my two cents as a manufacturer of coatings for the last 32 years. I have a bias, which we should get out of the way up front. I manufacture primarily clear coats. That said, I offer the following general comments.

Any manufacturer or "sales agent" of any product; but, specifically hand applied clear coats has no legitimate reason for not selling you a sample of their product. NONE. All these companies (to the best of my information and belief) will NOT sell you product UNLESS you buy their dealership at $4K to $48K.

Nor, do they have any legitimate reason to not provide you with a MSDS product sheet. They do not HAVE to give you one if you are the end consumer of the product AND they apply the product themselves. They use this as their "loophole" to not provide one.

The excuse that their product is "Proprietary" and someone might "copy" it if they sold it to them is bogus. People have bought samples of my products for the past 30 years and tried to copy them WITHOUT success. If you are what you say you are...let a guy try to duplicate it...knock yourself out!

And, then when you put out the proposition that only your product doesn't need sanding, scuffing, some kind of surface preparation because only you have the "magic" that nobody else has, not DuPont, not Sherwin-Williams, not PPG or ANYBODY else, well I got to say...C'mon man. The claim that only you have a product that doesn't need Mechanical Adhesion because it has Chemical adhesion is simply beyond the pale. EVERY product has chemical adhesion derived from the resins, solvents (oil or water based) and surfactants they use in their formulations; BUT, EVERY product needs mechanical adhesion (however derived) as well to insure proper adhesion.

Then this fable about putting down a tenth of a mil or even less ( one manufacturer talks about only 2 microns thickness) of a hand applied product. Our product goes down at 1/2-2/3 a mil dry film thickness and if you took a mil gauge to the film I'm willing to bet a hundred dollars to a donut hole you'll find that their's do too.

Let's keep it real people. Everyone promote their product for its REAL benefits not try to make it cure cancer or even the common cold. This is a tremendous business, big enough for 100 competitors and doesn't need to be Hyped to death to make it viable.

                  Just My opinion :-)

Maybe just deal with the actual question rather then hiding a product ad with a cut-and-paste reply?

                        OK.

Not sure why you felt the need to rant here as this is a year old thread that involves none of the products or situations you're describing. If you have some sort of an agenda here, this is not the place for it. Nobody here is making any wild claims about any product at all. The companies you mentioned are not represented on this forum, we certainly make no claims for them, nor do we necessarily recommend or endorse them.

I think is was someone searching for sales, since the company that matches his username sells the wipe on clear topper. Just a spam thing, you can tell the whole thing was a cut-n-paste from an answer to another question and just plopped down here, and that was the first post.
