  • Ultimate Compound First use this weekend!!!!

I am very excited to try UC this weekend but i do not want to ruin my truck. I saw the post were someone ruined the whole side if thier car with UC, after reading that i think he had to much pressure on his fingertips and did not prep the vehicle. I cannot believe he inflicted that much damage by hand, that is why im nervous. I will do a test spot before i put UC all over the car. I was going to wash with GC then CLay, UC, DC2, NXt 2.0.

Yes there are some factors which need to be taken into consideration first. So long as you do the prep work and use the right techniques and a small test spot then you have done everything correct. Goodluck with the UC i heard also that it works wonders! Post some before and after pics, we would love to see the outcome!

You can also do a test spot with SwirlX also, which is milder, first.

Both give good results, UC tends to be the more drmatic make overs of course.

But just to be sure, you dont SwirlX everything, then UC. Just SwirLX test spot, a UC test spot if needed, then repeat what works over the whole car. If you used UC, just follow up with SwirlX if needed.

Remember the rules of Gold, Always go from the least abrasive product to the more abrasive one.

You may see the order of abrasiveness in this post.

Well it would also depend on the hardness of the paint you're working on.

Detailers clean places nobody see. Detailer see's things nobody else see. But if you ask a Detailer to see how a dress looks on a woman, they are blind.

I wish that I had pictures of my '88 Beretta, it was far worse that the car "ruined" by UC, and that was with another company's 'cleaner wax.' My advice? Lose the fear, follow the directions on the product and the advice given here on the forum and you'll be fine.

Why? You have not described at all what you are trying to correct. UC is for rejuvinating paint finish issues for which the normal/milder SwirlX or ScratchX2.0 are not sufficient. You typically dont start out with the intent of using UC unless you clearly have fairly serious/neglected issues to deal with (or extremely hard paint, etc). As everyone has said, you start with the mildest product and hope it will work and that you can stop there. You dont start with SwirlX to "prep" for UC, you try SwirlX hoping it will be sufficient (and only on a test area, not doing the whole car).

Also, you mentioned working in the cold (13 degrees). Be careful, and dont let working in the cold distract you and/or slip into doing a rush or careless job. If you are uncomfortable, it might be better to do a simple SwirlX "temporary job" and wait for better weather when you can spend the time and attention to do a really first-class rejuvination. Its just a thought, but living in Canada I often end up taking this route, since cold hands/fingers simply dont do a first-class job (even in a sheltered but unheated garage). As well, all of the products simply dont work as well in cold conditions.

i have tried the swirl x but it did nothing. THe person who had the car must of taken to tunnels car washes 100 times so the paint *****. I also tried scratch X which did not much, so i figured UC would be next. I would only do this if I could do it in my buddies heated garage. I am not going to rush and ruin my paint. Thanks for the advice

As long as you don't do the whole car at once, let it dry, and do it in the sun you should be fine. Definately do it in a heated garage, this time of the year is no good here in the Mid Atl/NE area.

Do a test spot, dial in your process and have at it! If you work in small sections at around a minute a pass and wipe the remaining product off before drying you will be ok.

I did my first time with UC by hand and it came out excellent!

This is what I achived last year on my wifes black Focus, not too bad at all by hand!

Hi how are you! I checked out your thread from last year, the car looks amazing and just being done by hand that is a massive improvement with just those few products. I am wondering how things are going with the car now. Did you try to remove anymore? All in all it looks a fantastic result. UC seems to do the trick for those swirl-filled cars!

Thanks Aussie! That was my first attempt by hand and it made a believer out of me (on Meguiar's products). After reading up on posts here, I did a test spot using ScratchX, SwirlX, and finally settling on the UC. By hand this took me several days on doing just the correction alone, it came out excellent for being detailed by a newbie!
Once I obtained a G110, I went over the car again and the car was dang near flawless. Several months ago the Focus was vandalized by a kid with nothing better to do other then spray painting my car! I was able to get rid of the spray paint using clay and UC, topping it off with #26. The trim on the other hand can't be corrected and will probably get it painted when spring rolls around.

Sorry for hijacking the thread....Glossboss, how did the UC work out for you?
