  • Compunding Touch-Up Paint

I'm going to spot areas on my bike frame with touch-up paint I got from Colorite. How long do I have to wait before I can use a compound like Ultimate Compound on fresh paint? I would like to sand it down to smooth it into the existing finish and then polish it back up with Ultimate Compound.

Come to think of it, can Ultimate Compound be used on touch-up paint? Thanks.

Typed out something on this topic just yesterday here,

Most important thing about doing this kind of work is to clean the chipped area as best as you can any way you can, (cotton swabs with rubbing alcohol?), and then apply your touch-up paint.

Now... let it dry for at least a week, if you can park your car in the sun. You want the paint to completely dry before you start sanding and rubbing on it. If you rub to soon you can actually pull the blob of touch-up paint right out of the chip.

Also, experiment with one or two chips before tackling all the chips.

So roughly wait a week for the paint to dry if you were to leave it in sunlight. I don't do that with my bike. It is out on the street, but covered. Not sure how that adds to perceived drying time.
