  • light scratching on chrome window trim

    hi all,

new user here but I've been using Meg's products for quite a while. The neighborhood birds (robbins in particular) are tearing up my car this season. They like to perch on the window trim right by the mirror and watch themselves in the sideview.

Because of this, they are doing a number on the chrome trim underneath the window. They have really scratched up the length of the entire thing. Any recommendations on product to use to remove the scratches?

I think the trim is plastic, but I'm not 100% sure. Its a 2008 honda accord.

    Thank you!

Since this is your first post... welcome to Meguiar's Online!

The problem you're having leads to one of the most read threads on this forum as it explains what you're trying to do and why you probably won't be able to remove the scratches.

What it means to remove a scratch out of anything...

If it was a REAL chrome coating you would not be able to remove the scratches because the coating is to thin and hard that it doesn't lend itself to being abraded with the end result looking good or original.

If the window trim is chrome looking plastic, then you'll have the same problem, the coating is too thin to give you enough thickness to abrade the scratches out of the surface and then leave the trim looking like you never worked on it.

In order to remove scratches out of anything the thing your working on, usually a material or a coating, has to have a certain amount of thickness to it and it has to be able to be abraded somehow and yet still look good after you're done.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...
