  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but...

First, I've been away from the detail-o-holics type forums for a while as I focused on building my own (non-detailing) biz and working a reg job on top of that. It's sooo nice to be back and poking around looking at pics in the extreme makeovers, etc.

I just got into an online argument with someone in regards to buffers and the detail biz in general (the fact that too many people calling themselves pros because they made up a business name and they use buffers wrong causing much damage, etc). It lead to a deeper discussion on detailing, where in I was giving my own steps (wash-two bucket, clay, clean, polish, wax-basically) that I follow and products I use. This is where I am now questioning myself, since I haven't put much thought into products in a while (I found what works for me, and I use it often-at least in agreeable weather, lol!). First-DC1 (Deep Crystal step one) is not abrasive, correct? I could swear I recall it is chemical only. Second-why wax after polishing. The basic is-polish feeds, wax protects. Right? Third-car shampoo/wash is really just a lubricant, it doesn't have an actual chemical effect on dirt. Am I correct here? My brain is just a pile of duh lately and having not focused on detailing how tos and whys isn't helping me!

I missed this guy, he's my fav color!!

Not sure, but is kind of a moot point because if I understand correctly DC1 is being discontinued.

    Yup

I don't think chemical effect is the right term.

If you get a rain shower and it rinses off your dirty sidewalk, that wasn't a chemical reaction. Nah, it just sorta turned a solid into water, and in the case of a good car wash it will have enough lubricant to suspend the dirt until it falls off the paint.

      1. DC1 does have a little bit of the diminishing abrasives in it.

      2. The oils of the pure polish will wash off pretty easily if not sealed in. And polishing oils arent made to protect the car from the elements. Wax is the sacrificial barrier for the elements.

      3. Well, you do want a soap that is very lubricating, and you dont want it to be strong or it can strip the wax. However, I would have to think that most soaps have some cleanining property in them.
