Silly I think. The guy on youtube that charges a ton of money for a detail started this trend and I I see it coming up every once in a while. Is there any benefit to this? I see how my hands can get a little dry and I wouldn't think of rubbing them on my paint. Even though the wax or sealant can act as a lube. I've heard people say that the warm from your hand will "melt it" and help it glide on smooth. I don't know. Seems like a waste to me.

I have high respect for European detailers and i'm not criticizing on their detailing charges..but...I wonder how they gonna wash off the waxex off their palms/fingers?..

I mean, for weekend warrior, should be ok, but for pro detailers whom gonna do at least 1 car per day...cant imagine that...

Apply by hand. No hazing. Very different.

Just for the grins of having fun, I used that method a couple months back. I used Meguiar's #26, and besides that fact that I looked really weird rubbing my hand across the whole car, it seemed fine. Now this it NOT recommended by Meguiar's, and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody, because there are no added benefits to do it this way with most waxes.

Some high end wax manufacturers recommend applying the product by hand.

That said, some paste waxes are very soft to help make the hand application easier.

I have used every paste wax with an applicator. It just seems too easy to damage the paint by using a fancy application trick.

Allegedly this matters only when it comes to products from certain manufacturer as they allegedly contain enzymes that get activated by this process and that allegedly in the end makes the difference.

Whether that is correct or not I don't know but some of those that do take it very seriously sometimes propagate that preaching with videos like these ones

so naturally I don't end up taking it very seriously, actually quite the opposite.

I tried playing around with those boutique waxes (out of curiosity) and tried applying them by rubbing my palm around... --not feeling it. And beside getting stared by passing cars, my neighbor asked me "son, are you massaging the car?...putting on lotion is it?"...."

All I can say; I will not be using this method at any time in the near future. I will say that square on the hood did look good. But this is not for me.
