  • Need Product Recommendations

I have an 05 black Taurus that spent 70,000 miles going through auto car washes, if it was lucky. Not surprisingly, the paint has a boatload of swirls and defects that I would like to minimize/remove.

I clayed and used NXT paste wax a month or so ago and while it helped hide some of the defects, I would like to clean it up a bit more.

I was thinking about #9 swirl remover and giving that a shot. Is it possible to effectively use that by hand, or am I in for a world of arm pain for little benefit? Any other product recommendations?

Heres a quick shot of what the paint looks like now.

    Thanks

You could give scratchX a try. You would always spread out the detail. Fender one week, hood the next, etc..etc.. so you won't be too burnt out.

M09 is to gentle for what you want to do by hand, if you look at the label on the bottle it shows Mike Pennington applying the product using a Rotary Buffer.

The rotary buffer is a "visual indicator" of how best results for removing swirls is accomplished.

What you want is M105, (am I sounding like a broken record yet?).

This is a new compound that we introduced at NACE last year and it's really the hot product for removing defects out of clear coat paints by hand.

It will work better and faster than anything else we make when working by hand or with a rotary buffer and as people are finding out even with a DA Polisher. You have to buy a quart however as at this time that is the smallest bottle we offer for this product.

(It's a body shop tool, not a consumer product)

Even with #105, just focusing on a section, say 2 panels or so a day, with #105, then polish and wax, will give best results.

I tried scratchX with a microfiber cloth already, and it didn't do anything. As for the #105, it isn't offered in the True Value warehouse, and thats a bit too pricey for my blood.

If i am out of options to actually remove them, is there anything that will just hide them?

You can buy a 12oz sampler of 105 from ADS for about $7. I used some this past weekend for the first time and there is no comparison to ScratchX. Ease of use and results are simply remarkable. I had some areas under and near the door handles that I've been working on with ScratchX a little at a time for a few weeks. They are areas where it's really difficult to get the "passion" applied that ScratchX requires. The mars were being reduced little by little but one application of 105 was all it took to eliminate the problem entirely.

Move over ScratchX....there's a new sheriff in town, and it's name is 105
