  • Scratch Removal Help

Here is my situation. I have an 07 Black Cherry Pearl Harley. I noticed a very fine scratch. So fine you have to look just right to see it. To date all that has been done to the bike is wah and use spray detail gloss. I wash it every week. I would like to get the scratch/swirls out by hand.
Figured I'd use the following in this order.

    Scratch x
    Number 7 Polish
    NXT Spray wax

Looking for thoughts and or suggestions and techniques for doing this by hand.
    Thanks

After reading a bit I am wondering if just using the number 7 polish then the NXT might take care of the minor scratch and other minor surface blemishes. The paint is in good condition as it is only a year old.

Looks good to me but i would substitute the nxt spray wax for nxt tech wax 2.0 the spray wax is used more for a booster wax and should not take the place of a good wax job. Remember when using scratchx put some passion behind the pad ( elbow grease )

-ScratchX is a good product to use, remember it will need worked in well.
-If you plan to detail the rest of the paint on the tank/fenders, you might want to look at a cleaner like Deep Crystal #1 for the unscratched areas and just use ScratchX on the scratched area.
        -A pure polish is good.
-A spray wax is not the same as an actual coat of a liquid/paste wax. If you are looking to protect the paint on the tank/fenders, a better choice would be a wax like Nxt 2.0.

Or you could use ScratchX the scratches area, then use a cleaner/wax followed by a coat of wax for a little shorter procedure.

Thanks for the replies. I decided last night to just wash the bike and start with the #7 then the NXT spray and see what happened. It came out awesome. My wife couldn't find the scratch. Well I couldn't stop there even though I should have. Decided to play hookie today as it is supposed to be 60 and sunny. Figured I'd ride a bit. Well I decided to head to Wally World and get the liquid NXT this morning in order to put a better coat of wax on it versus the spray wax. It went on and came off great. Washed all my microfiber and terry towels last night. Well when I was all done I saw one little spot that looked hazy/smudged. Took the microfiber to it a bit figuring it would wipe shiny. Wrong, now there are a few scratches where the spot was. Only thing I could think of is that the towel I happened to have in hand was a microfiber from a 4 pack at Wal-Mart for 4 Bucks. Not as plus or soft as it should be. Throwing those out. Guess I will be trying the Scratch X after all. Tried putting a bit of the NXT liquid over the scratch and wiped/buffed with a more plush detail towel I have and they are still there.

            Re: Scratch Removal Help

Get high quality MF towels, it's worth it because in the end you won't be destroying the job, it's like trying to remove swirls and scratches and then installing a few when you are finished so you are in the right track.

But Meguiar's MF towels, they are super high quality
