single stage goodness

Hi all,
first of all i think the move to vbulletin was a great idea, pitty though i had to sign up again as i wasnt part of the original mol forums.

anywho, ive been searching for threads to no vale. i have a 2002 toyota camry, in white, with a single stage paint finish. i was a little annoyed after reading mike phillip's thread on how 2 test your paint finish for clear coat or single stage, using the paint cleaner technique. I thought cars around the 2002 year would be clear coated!!!

The problem ive been having is removing scratches and swirls. This is what ive done and the technique i use and i am well aware of black viper thread where the bird itch was removed even though the owner said he/she tried everything.

I wash then clay the car firstly, and evaluate the finish using a xenon light. the swirls seem to be heaviest around the rear area where the roof joins the boot of the car. then i apply around 6-7 coats of scratchx onto the area, and then i look @ the surface with the light again, but the swirls are still there. i always use a clean hand applicator and work the product with love and passion - and i mean it! i want them off i tell ya! the paint is also not oxidized.

I know this product works, as i have removed alot of swirls and scratches on my friends & family's clear coat finishes.

just wondering if ive got it all wrong with single stage detailing. i gotta feeling i need to apply a medium cut mirror glaze polish or something of that grade.

lastly, anyone know when nxt tech wax 2.0 will reach australian shores?

Hi Wilco,

Have you read our article on white paint? It's about the importance of "Cleaning" your paint at it's core but it touches on white paint because when we write we tend to go off in different directions but also do our best to make tie it back into the original topic of the article.

A lesson from white paint



Read the article, it may shed some light as to why you're experiencing difficulty in removing defects out of the paint.


Even with a machine it's going to be difficult.

NXT 2.0 in Australia? There's a thread on the forum recently on this topic, try doing a search using the word Australia

ok so after reading that
but i give up.

looks like i'll be just apply cleaner wax to remove road film & the occasional nxt wax
why did i have to buy a white car....

I have used the cleaner wax and then number 7 then the scratchX. It might not be the correct way to use but it worked on my buddies car.

If you did it in that order, you did nothing except remove the wax, then remove the polish, the just left the paint clean with no protection on it; and with SS paint, the paint will look good for a week or two.

mmm i havent begun exploring the professional line yet, partly because its still hard to find them in my neck of the woods, and i still have a truck load of the consumer line products.
thanks zman for the suggestion, but i think that if you reverse your process it will be alot more effective, but not too sure whether #7 & #12 mix?

i guess without a G220 and little knowledge of the professional line the best i can do now is protect the paint.

The consumer line is still a great set of products! The Deep Crystal System is what first got me going on Meguiar's, and I still use it to this day even with all of the other products I have accumulated.

1-2 applications of Deep Crystal Cleaner
1 application of Deep Crystal Polish
2 applications of Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax
