  • My DIY Grit Guards (2 for < $7)

I haven't tried washing the car with this but I tested in a 5gallon bucket full of water and it stayed in the bottom of the bucket.

    Material and cost:
    2 - Homer Bucket Lid (Orange) - $0.98 each
    8 - UV Cable Tie - $0.01 each
    1 - 4x48x1/8 Pinn Rubber WB-Gray-EA - $2.96

    Tools:
    - Heavy duty scissor (I don't know the name or type...just enough to cut the rubber and plastic lid)
    - Phillips screw driver (used to make a hole on the rubber for the cable ties to go through)
    - Measuring tape
    - Straight edge (at least 4 inches)
    - Pen
    - <1hr of time

    Here are some pictures:

Interesting.. just be carefull for shards of plastic.

One of those grids for overhead lights might be an option also.

When I was cutting the lid, I left enough room so it won't easily break off (crossing fingers).

Grids for overhead lights? Can you show me a pic or link? BTW, how much is a grid?

Dont know why I cant find them on Home Depot or Lowes... It would be called like an Egg Crate Louvre, or Egg Crate Light Diffuser.

I am sure Home Depot / Lowes would have it also.

                    1 for $9.00 or 2 for $16.00

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                    Remove swirls my friends.

seems like everything is cheap in the US... 1 grit cost around $15-17 so 2 grits would be the double of that..
