  • Mothers powerball, works nice with the megs metal polishes

I have purchased a powerball and it is a nice tool to have. It sped up cleaning the chrome on my classic. I have a 99 Chevy with American racing polished aluminum wheels and those things were beat up and when I used the megs polish with the powerball it turned out great. Just something that I would like to share to make work easier for the rest of you guys.

And over the year that I have spent on this forum I have learned great things about everything there is to detailing. I know that one of my first post on the tricks of trade is still up and man did I sound stupid when I read it. That was like a year ago. That was when I was first leaning now I feel a little more accomplished in that I learned a lot. Back when I wrote that write up I listened to my friends at school and they said my paint will come off if I keep washing it. I can't believe I listened to them. Man I regret posting that write up on washing.
And I would like to thank every one for their help over the year.
    Thanks Alex

The only problem I've found with the Powerball is that if it's used at too high a speed setting the foam rubber on it will shred, especially if it's used along an edge. Because of that, I prefer the Flitz ball a little more. Harder to shred, and it works at higher speeds. But, the Mother's Powerball is more readily available vs. the Flitz ball...Oh well.

i love that thing, makes polishing your wheels 100 times faster, and look better.polished my taillights and 3rd brake light on my T/A w/ plastX+powerball, looked new.great investment.also this is pathetic, but i work construction and have to wear saftey glasses, well i was bored one night and the were scratched up,so took it and plastX them, worked pretty well.

Nothing wrong with using PlastX to polish glasses; I've used some to polish up the plastic on the gauge covers on my '74 Corvette. PlastX helped save it. HOWEVER!!! Use at LOW speeds when doing any buffing on plastic...Otherwise, you get it heating up and burn spots on it, or melting. My dad tried to polish a plastic cover for an old ohm meter that he'd had on a buffing wheel. The Buffing wheel kicks out 3600 RPMs, more than double what the polishing compound recommended (this was in pre-PlastX days) and it caused the plastic to melt and craze. As I'm sure most of us have read in here on the forums, the best advice on using products on your car is to READ THE DIRECTIONS! I know, it's hard for most of us to do, since us guys don't believe in reading directions or asking for directions, but hey, it helps!!!

Learned that the hard way. Tried ti fix some scratches around the transmission shifter. Saw a little improvement went for the gusto. Result burn marks thru the plastic cover. live and learn.

When I first bought my 62. The owner told me some auto students spent a week polishing the chrome and they used the power ball resulting in burning through the chrome. Those kids did not know what they were doing.

I have a couple of the smaller ones and the larger ones, I find myself using the smaller ones when I polish wheels. A cheaper and very good alternative is Rick at ADS carries a wool polishing cone, they work well too.

That is great to hear. We designed the Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish with this use in mind.
