thank you sir, meguiars philippines dont sell blue clay, i need to order from states. i think the small particles bond on my paint already, even im keep on claying & using ultimate compound it cant remove i can see it with a flourocent lamp. but when im touching the surface it feels smooth, by the way im using consumer clay kit set

Amazing information as always guys, thank you.

Think I'm gonna try and grab a few spare parts from the junkyard and try my hand at it before trying a real car

Actually, if you compare equal grits of paper it's actually less invasive and aggressive to D/A sand than it is to hand sand, and the final result gives a more uniform, predictable scratch. In fact, when done properly, 2000 grit D/A sanding is equivalent to 2500 or even 3000 grit hand sanding, it's that much less aggressive. Now, couple that with Meguiar's new Unigrit Finishing Discs with the foam backing and the correct interface pad, and you can quite safely damp sand even over some contours of the paint with very little risk of damage.

Now, none of this is to say you can just go grab some sanding discs, slap 'em on your G110v2 and sand away without worry of problems. We're talking about proper speed, proper amount of water, the correct disc(s) for the process, etc. It's still a skill that needs to be developed and honed, but it's not as aggressive as you might think.

You can but a couple of comments...

    1) Be careful

    2) Use a high or fine grit paper, in this example I was using #3000 Unigrit Foam Finishing Discs, very high quality products very safe when used with good technique

    3) This is a custom paint job, the paint is thicker than a factory finish and of course before ever starting I did a "Test Spot" to see how easy or difficult it would be to buff out sanding marks and the results from my test spot showed the paint be be very polishable.

I did all the sanding and finish polishing using the new G110v2 and it worked flawlessly for both sanding and polishing.

After years of typing on forums, one characteristic about my typing style is I choose my words very carefully and specifically and what I typed about the Surbuf pads is that I ONLY used the Surbuf pads with the G110v2 for a small section on the hood, about 20" square.

For the rest of the car I used a Makita Rotary Buffer with a Meguiar's W5000 Double Sided Wool Cutting Pad with M105 Ultra Compound, followed by using the Makita Rotary Buffer with a W8207 Foam Polishing Pad with M205 Ultra Finishing Polish, followed by using the G110v2 with a W9207 Foam Finishing Pad with M205 and then applied M21 with a different, clean W9207 Foam Finishing pad on the G110v2

I also used the new 4" Spot Repair Pads for long, thin panels....

Tilt the polisher a little to lift the leading edge of the pad...

And here's what an ample but thin, well worked-in coating of M21 Synthetic Sealant looks like after machine application using a DA Polisher.

I'm using the Flash to highlight the coating of M21 Synthetic Sealant otherwise it just doesn't show up very well...

And then pulled the car out into full sun and tool all the previously posted shots and these ones as well.

I would recommend watching this Meguiars series on wetsanding.

    Wetsanding part 1 of 5

And I definitely second the earlier remark to try the process on a small spot before sanding the whole panel and make sure you are happy with the results before going further.

I wetsanded a small spot on my hood with 2000 grit, and I could not pull all the marks out by hand with either UC or M105. It looks much better, reflects nicely and you wouldn't notice it on a white car, but you can definitely see some striae on direct reflection of light. My next step will be to take them out with a rotary and wool pad.

That is great. A sanding system for the d/a. Great news.

Thought it might have more meaning if you could see the El Camino after sanding, but before compounding and polishing...

Question is, if sanded with 1500 grit followed by 2500 grit on relatively soft paint, can a DA polisher along with M105 get out the sanding marks, or is that just a rotary tool that can do it? I was able to get sanding marks out with M105 by hand, but it takes a lot of effort and it's a relatively large panel.

    Thanks
Somewhere on this forum is a write-up about a Dad that sanded down a new paint job for his son while his son was in Iraq and then painstakingly removed the sanding marks out of the entire car using a DA Polisher.

He did comment that it took him a long time and he understood the job could have been done better and faster with a rotary buffer but didn't want to use a rotary.

Not sure how to search for the thread but it might be in this forum group for wet-sanding.
