wet sand and buff a whole car? My Honda civic i just painted 3 coats base and 3 coats of clear. i bought a rotary buffer and 3 wool pads with 3M perfect-it rubbing compound. im kinda scared to use the buffer to be honest lol. but i want to wet sand and buff my whole car in the next two days. i have all day to do it. Will this be enough time?

How much experience do you have with a rotary? The only reason I ask is that you state you are apprehensive about using it. I am sure you will get some advice on it, but if you are inexperienced in wet sanding and using the rotary, you might want to leave this project to one of your local pros.

If you really want to speed up the process I'd ditch those two bottles of "rubbing compound" I see in your pictures and get yourself some M105 Ultra Cut Compound. Use that with the wool pad on your rotary and you'll be amazed at how quickly it will get rid of the sanding marks and how beautiful the finish looks.

i have no experience in using a rotary buffer. i have no experience in wet sanding....besides the past 3 hours ive been working on my trunk. WOW what a difference 1500 grit sand paper makes on orange peel. i think i gotten the hang of wet sanding but i haven't used the rotary yet. i will tomorrow. a 1ft by 1ft part of my trunk took about an hour an a half to wetsand.

Thanks for the advice though...i will post more pix tomorrow.

i bought #84 from Meguiars like 2 weeks ago and still hasn't came in the mail. ..so i had to buy 3M perfect-it at a local paint shop..and turtle wax compound at Walmart

Be careful with the TW rubbing compound. It's what some call 'rocks in a bottle.'

TW rubbing compound is one of those products that should not be used on any paint finish especially clear coat because it will mar your paint because of it's harshness and poor quality...... never use it on clear coat.... the 3m one should be ok....

and also you should not put the buffer on the ground even if you put it on the plastic bag.... you should put it on a cart or table or chair..... any contact with the ground will pick up small rocks/sand from the ground which will carve deep swirls/scratchs/hologram into the paint.... common sense when you consider that you would not eat food from the ground because of the same reason....

if you read the the threads about the wetsanding projects..... M105 seems to be the best one step product to take out wetsanding marks with just changing to different pads to get different finish

its better to spend more time knowing how to do it right the first time than having to repaint the car all over again because you destroyed the paint with the wrong products and techniques.....
