  • Did a little wetsanding/touchup

Hey guys, I would just like to say thanks to those who have posted helpful information in the wetsanding forum! I decided to give it a try yesterday on my girlfriends car and I was very happy with the results (and so was she ).

You can see my writeup of the entire process here:

    Basically I used:
    1500 Grit 3M sandpaper
    2000 grit 3M sandpaper
    Touchup paint
    3M Rubbing compound
PC 7424 with Lake Country cutting and polishing pads
    Meguiars #26

I first had to remove the previous owners bad attempts at touching up whatever they hit. As I found out, their attempts actually made it worse

    Front bumper went from this:

    to this

    Passenger side mirror from this:

    to this:

I'm not sure exactly, it came in a small bottle and the product number is 3900. Either way, good stuff! I have not read that article, I just took what everyone posted here and experimented a little until I was satisfied

I did some more to day, I'll post pics in a minute. Thanks for the compliments!

              Re: Did a little wetsanding/touchup

              From today....

There was some bad spots on the drivers side rear quarter panel and bumper from where someone had most likely sideswiped a garage door or something of the like. There was some junk that had bonded to the clear and a deep nasty scratch on the bumper. Luckily, only the bumper needed sanding.

              The quarter panel:

              The stuff buffed out nicely

              Onto this monster:

              In the sanding process:

It's not entirely gone, but you've definately gotta be looking for it to see it:

The view from about 5 feet. I wish I had taken a before pic here, it was definately an eyesore:

Then I was on to tackle a botched touchup repair of a door ding. To no surprise, the mismatched touchup paint actually made it look worse.
Here it is, slightly out of focus:

              Sanding it down:

              And now it's gone!

I also rebuffed the rear spoiler and it felt sooo nice . I thought this picture captured the feel well

                      Re: Did a little wetsanding/touchup

Great work on those scratches. My girlfriends 04 Honda accord's paint IMO turned out bad. So I'll be doing some touch up & sanding as well. Again great work.
