Speed dial on Chicago Electric rotary(1000-3000 rpm)

Just thought I'd let you guys know how the dial works on the CE 1000-3000 rpm buffer as a lot of people seem to be confused as to which number on the dial equals which rpm.

Here goes:
1= 1000
2= 1400
3= 1800
4= 2200
5= 2600
6= 3000

The dial, however, is variable, meaning 1.5= 1200, 2.5= 1600, etc. Hope this helps out a bit

Except for the CE buffers do about 2/3rd's rated speed when using because of pad+backing plate + just the pressure of the machine weight .
If using more pressure , then even slower .

i heard the CE is half of the indicator for example

1=500
2=1000
3=1500
4=2000
5=2500



oh well i guess you get what you pay for..besides i will first practice on junkers before i ever try on my car or any friends or family...wait i take that back if they make me mad enough maybe i offer a free wash and polish lol..jk

Go to your local new car dealership and offer to buff cars for free. They obviously don't care who does it anyway. Heck, you might be better than the guy in the back from day one.

The CE won't do more than 3000 rpms.

Hitachi=5year warranty plus 6.2pounds(lighter then makita),better pricing

Makita-one year warranty,6.5 pounds, pricing alittle on the high side due to the fact of supply and demand

How is the hitachi as far as (not) bogging down under it's own weight (and/or with a little extra pressure applied)? That's really the biggest gripe I've got with the CE, it's VERY picky about how much pressure you can apply. I usually end up lifting up the machine while using it, to take some of it's own weight off of it, even.

Well, I have a Black & Decker rotary (Dewalt 849 =) and a Hitachi. I prefer the Hitachi in every way. It's quieter, lighter and has the bail handle that I like much more than the side handle.

The Hitachi is a powerful machine and does NOT bog under pressure.

from what i hear....the makita and hitachi are nearly identical...so you can go wrong with either one......

How long have you had your hitachi....
Have you had any problems so far (warranty issue)...
and if you dont mind me asking were did you pick yours...(ebay)...
i also read somewhere you had the privelage to use both makita and hitachi(which you own)...
someone suggested the best piece of advice was try both of them in your hands.....

I've had it a few weeks. It feels to me identical to the Makita. I did get it off ebay. You should still be able to find them there too. It was a company in Florida and not just a random auction. It has been no problem at all.
