Re: Hi, HEEEEEYYY I Screwed up my car!!!

Thanks for the info and the compliments Even the nice pic of my front fender has holos though. They are just BARELY noticeable. Not to discredit you guys but I was doing fine with a power drill and even once with the rotary last year. I just done had to be "re-learned' cuz I forgot how I was doing stuff.....and I took some bad advice initially this year. One quick thing, I really like what I am hearing about M205. It sounds like something I would really like to move to this weekend. BUT you mentioned that switching to a milder liquid would be more beneficial. By that did you mean finer (as in M205) or milder (as in Scratch x or Machine glaze)?

Also, the thing I have been wondering all along is, if you just said its easier to get a better finish using a DA, then why the hell do people use a rotary?!?! I assume the rotary is more efficient? Also, my DA only takes bonets what type of bonet do I use? Or do I need to get a better DA that takes pads?

Scratch X isn't recommended for a rotary that I know of, and Machine Glaze has basically no cut. I believe the current consensus is M205. It really will surprise you. I have not used it with a rotary, but it gives great results with a DA.

People use a rotary because it is arguably faster. I say arguably because now with the DA MF system many professionals proficient with a rotary use their DA almost exclusively. Others still trust rotary+wool for their very important work (I do not recommend a wool pad for you, just something worth mentioning.)

If your DA takes a bonnet it sounds like one of the cheapos (no offense) that is mainly only good for spreading wax. I would look into a G110v2 if you are really interested, but I would wait to see what you are capable of with M205.

A rotary has the ability / power to correct far more severe defects than a DA does. It's just harder to finish swirl / hologram free with the rotary.

If your defects aren't that bad to start with, you only need to use a DA and there's less chance of screwing anything up.

Re: Hi, HEEEEEYYY I Screwed up my car!!!

Wow, awesome information. It all makes sense and was what I assumed. Yes my DA is a cheapy. $30 at Autozone for a 10". I used it for nothing other than applying wax and I was pretty surprised/disappointed when I saw that the foam pad cant be replaced. Thats dumb.

Over the weekend, I'm going to give the M205 a try. (I may test out the scratch X on a spot just because I'm curious what it will do since its non abrasive. I used some of it by hand and it took the swirls down quite a but the other day). I'm going to head to a Napa or somewhere else and find an actual finishing pad and a real DA. Can't wait!

The only thing is, I wish M205 came in a smaller sized bottle. I really dont need to have a huge $25 jug of polish laying around to help encourage me to polish my car even more than I do know.

Right now i have a five gallon pail at home that has three bottles of show car glaze, 1 nxt tech was, two M09, 1 scratch x, and two M26. I bought all of that stuff last year. Y

ou guys make a lot of money off me. I have even polished and put show car glaze on my rusted out $750 GMC Sierra (you can see that in the background of my pic). Seeing the rusted out wheel well might help you understand why I just used some foam that I got in a package during shipping when polishing that truck. Miraculously it turned out great, although there had to have been tons of chipped off pieces of my truck rust in the pad when I was done.

ScratchX is abrasive. It sits somewhere between M205 and M105 on the agressiveness scale.

Re: Hi, HEEEEEYYY I Screwed up my car!!!

We call out "non-abrasive" on the bottle of ScratchX 2.0 but that's really more to indicate to general consumers that it won't scratch or scuff the paint like some competing products that share shelf space with it can (and often do - we get calls about that all the time). Davey is right about the aggressiveness of ScratchX 2.0 in that it's actually more aggressive then M205. Yeah, we keep harping on M205 but the abrasives in it are so specialized and so high tech, that's why it creates such a high level of gloss and clarity. It really is unique in our lineup, and if you're looking to give you the level of finish you're really after, that's the product you want to go with.
