  • makita 9207 spindle and maintenance

I have a makita 9207 and the spindle has the larger thread (5/8 I think). The spindle is built into the machine. How can I get it to use a Meguiars backing plate with the smaller spindle? The backing pad I have on there is too large for the 7" foam pads. Would it be easier to just find a backing plate with the larger thread?

Would this work with the 2.0 7" pads?

Also the Makita is pretty old. 20 years at least.

When I start it up, it starts to spin slowly, then gets to full speed. Not terrible, but nowhere near how fast the G110 snaps to speed. I was wondering if I need to clean anything like the armature, contacts, etc? I saw a post here talking about replacing them.

What am I looking at cleaning/inspecting/replacing?

    Thanks

Re: makita 9207 spindle and maintenance

As of now, there is no conversion to use a DA backing plate on a rotary polisher. There is an adapter to use a rotary backing plate on the DA.

    Link:

I would not deal with the adapters. It's just easier to have a dedicated backing plate for each machine.

No, the W64 plate will not work with the Soft Buff 2.0 pads. The centering button will not allow the pad to mount properly. You can use the W66 and W68 plates, though.

A few members own 9207's and they should be able to give you some help.
