  • New To Rotary Polisher...

Today, I brought my first rotary polisher. I don't detail anyone's but my truck. Never used one before, but my PC-7424 just don't seem to get most of these swirls&scratches out. So I tried it out. One thing good, I didn't burn my paint . It's the http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=92623

I know from reading some posts that this polisher is the least popular with alot of you guy's, but i'm just a homeowner and don't want to spend big$'s. I threw my 8006 pad on and used #83 and still didn't seem to get results. Granted, I kept the speed very very low(fear for first use). When I would load the 83 on the pad, use lowest setting to distribute, then raise it to about the 2 setting, the 83 would seem disappear within about 15 seconds. Am I not loading enough 83? Too slow a speed? Basically, i'm letting the weight of the machine do the work. I know alot of you people will say it's a no no for me(first time) to be using one of these, but I don't live in cali where I can go to a MG course. I'm in fla. Many thanks everyone.

Learning the way of the machine is so much faster if you can find a proficient detailer and get some hands-on experience.

Have you watched the rotary buffer video clips we made and uploaded you YouTube?

    How about our PES101V video?

          Re: New To Rotary Polisher...

Besides Watching the videos I would get a old body panel from a body shop to practice on before I would even touch my vehicle with the rotary. In your case even though you already used it on your truck I would get the panel to help refine the process with the rotary. In my experience with 83 and the rotary(very limited) I have found 83 to greak down quit fast, so take your time and do small areas at a time and practice on a test panel from the body show.

I have the same rotary and purchased it for the same reasons as VengeFulHemi. I, too, am having the same problems. I've watched all the videos. 83 and even 80 go to a dry buff within seconds. I'm using slow speeds and am doing very small sections. What gives?

Due to the nature of the pad, there will be some absorbtion. After the initial bead has been picked up and worked in, it is sometimes necessary to pick up another bead of product.

Also, the pad should always be prepped with #34 before you start polishing - not after every section, just when you first start using the pad.

                Re: New To Rotary Polisher...

I just bought the same rotary and initially I was having the same problem as you guys are. I had the speed on III but it tended to be too slow and bog down even without much pressure. So I kicked it up to level IIII and it seems to do a much better job. I figure the best setting for most rotarys is 1800 RPM's and from some other post I read its pretty close to level IIII so maybe that can help you out. As for application of 80 or 83 I end up having to re apply again sometimes on the same section but after that it seems to be ok. Oh and one other thing be careful if you kick it up to level IIII because its so unbalanced it may feel like it will get away from you but let it just glide its not that bad. I too bought it for mild purposes so once I was able to do all this I was happy, just seems like a really big hassle

Chris, I've done all that and still can't seem to get this rotary thing down. When applying the product it looks nothing like it does in the videos posted by Shawn (meaning the time they have to work the product). I've tried a lot of product, a little product, priming the pad with spritz of QD, etc. I've mimmicked the videos to a "T" but still can't get it right. I'm working in my garage on a cool panel. Don't know what else to do.

What pad are you using? If your using the one that came with it, your using the wrong pad. That pad will do nothing for you. I borrowed my friends Harbor Freight rotary (the one linked above) and had great results. You need to have it between speed II and III on that rotary with #80 and a W-8006. I wouldn't recommend starting out with 83, because it just gets to gummy. Let me know how it works...

That's how mine turned out, let me know what product and pad and speed your using.

Have you tried directly applying the product to the pad? I know it will sling, but it may help prep the pad.

I've had #83 and #80 cake when I applied too much product, but I have not had it dry up.

I am using an 8006 pad. I knew better than to use any type of pad that came with the rotary.

Chris, I've tried that, too. No difference.

Mike, I've read that thread several times through.

I think I'm just an idiot when it comes to the rotary. I'd love to get the hang of it but it certainly isn't coming along like I expected it to. I'm loving my G100 more and more.

Believe me, you're no idiot when it comes to a rotary. It's very wise of you to ask for help instead of giving up. Rotary buffing is not as simple as using the PC.

After the product disappears, is there still a film on the surface?

I think what may be happening is the padisn't making full contact with the paint. The part that is touching the paint doesn't have any product, so it appears the product is gone. Can you try adding just a little pressure so the whole surface of the pad is in contact with the paint?
