  • Initial Order

Did not get any replies to my first post so figured I would post a follow up.

Today, I called the 800# and placed my intial order up for the G-100 as well as pads and products to support it.

Thus far, I have on order:

G-1000A - Electric Dual Action Polisher
    WDAV99-B - Set of 3 Polishing Pads (x2)
X4003 - Gold Class Clear Coat Safe Microfiber Bonnets (x2)
    W7006 - SOFTBUFF™ Cutting Pad
    M8001 - Speed Glaze
D15501 - Last Touch Spray Detailer
D20155 - Last Touch OSHA Compliant Bottle (x2)

I think the above selection will get me started on the right foot with the G-100A, hope so amyway. I am working on a new "06 White Honda Ridgeline that I have kept looking pretty sweet thus far using the NXT line by hand. I plan on continuing with the NXT Tech Wax as a LSP, at least until I run out of the 2 cans I have then consider playing with some products from the detailer line, possibly the #21.

I do have a question though. The fellow on the phone recommended I use the X4003 - Gold Class Clear Coat Safe Microfiber Bonnets for wax Removal. I took his advice and ordered a couple but now that I did that I am thinking I seem to rememeber seeing a few threads from others about their having used other pads/bonnets and getting great results. Can some of you folks chime in here and possibly clear this up for me as I am totoally new to the DA and wnt to get started on the right foot.

Also, next question. Why is is referrred to as the "DA"? just curious.

And then, I would love to hear/see any thoughts from those of you that have better familiarity with the DA as to any products and/or support items I may have overlooked here.

    Thanks a heap folks

Congrats on the order! You have a very good start.

Sorry to hear your first post was not answered so I thought I would chime in.

Using a Gold Class Bonnet (using the cutting pad as a backing pad ONLY) to remove wax works very well. When removing NXT with the PC IMO it gives you a deeper looking finished product.

Here is a good post on pads/speeds: Product, Pad and Speed settings for the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher

M8001 - Speed Glaze - Great product I have used it and really like it, easy to use, just don't let it dry.

Last Touch Spray Detailer - Another great product I use it all the time, seems a little will go along ways.

Good luck let use know how things work out or if you have some more questions... post some photos.

NXT Wax - You just need a thin coat, let it set for 15 min or so then remove with the Bonnet and PC. I like to appy a second coat of NXT Wax 12-24 hours after the first coat, seems to add some more depth to the paint and may even the look out.

    DA = Dual Action

Here is a lighter color that I used my PC on with the following:
    1. #80 - Applied with PC removed by hand
    2. #26 - Applied with PC removed with PC and Bonnet
    3. NXT Paste Wax - Applied with PC removed with PC and Bonnet

Yep... Jeff's right... no one answered his first posted here according to forum time at 1:35am

I apologize for that. I was on the computer processing e-mail and posting answers starting at 6:00am this morning as shown here in this thread, but somehow yours slipped by me...

So it's not for a lack of trying, it's just there will always be a few that slip by... sorry...

        Hey Jeff,

Until Mike's return...I will post a write-up he completed back in July answering your very question!

I hope the above information helps! Also, as Mike said, we do our best to answer as many questions as possible. Yet some slip past. I know Mike works incredible hours answering questions as one look at his post count, which is nearly 4 times that of the next highest poster. His are quality posts; not just posts that build a post count and do nothing for a forum. But like I said, some posts that are posted at irregular hours sometimes get missed accidently.

If you have any further questions regarding the above suggested products, please feel free to post them!

          Re: Initial Order

Thanks for the follow up folks. Looks like I am on the right track. I did not order the #83 as yet. I was under the impression that I should use the #80 first and if that does not take out the few microfiber marks and minor scratches I have then proceed with the #83. I'll refresh my memory here by looking at the stuff you guys have posted.

I may just go ahead and call back tomorrow and order the #83 even if I need it or not. I am sure I will need it eventually. Be handy to have it in house.

I will call Meg's tomorrow anyway as the Clay Detailing kit from the consumer line has been out of stock for about 2 months or so now. I have some backordered but it's been that way for quite a while. Maybe I'll look at the C2000 from the pro line and cross my fingers that they have it in stock. If they don't, I am gonna have to bite the bullet and go buy the mother's kit from my local Autozone as nobody around here seems to carry Meg's Clay Detailing System.

And I hope I did not seem impatient waiting for a reply from the forum members. I just got a bug up my backside today and decided not to put off getting the DA any longer.

I'll try to get out tomorrow and snap a couple of pics of the one or 2 places on the truck that might take a little extra lovin' and post them and get some feedback.

Oh, put this in your lesson learned file. I had some Rain-X Window Wax I bought a few weeks ago for the windows. I liked the old Rain-X original so figured I would try the Rain-X Window Wax. Tried it, did not like it. No biggie. But yesterday while detailing figured I might as well try to find a use for it so put it on my headlights and taillights. The headlights went fine, no problems. I put it on the tailights and could not get it off. Tried Mutipurpose cleaner and NXT Speed detail then NXT Window cleaner. Nothing would get it off. Actually had to break out the Isopropyl Alcohol. Gave what was left of the stuff to a buddy and warned him about it.

            Re' Initial Order

Trying to post my first pic here. It was taken at night here but I think gets the point across,

This is respresentative of my 2 trouble spots. On my tailgate on both lower corner I made my first effort at debadging a vehicle. I think where I goofed at was rubbing too hard/too long with the Isopropyl Alcohol Soaked microfiber. The marks are not deep at all but I would like to address them.

            Will the #80 remove these?

I guess the best bet is to use #80 and see then proceed to the #83 if need be.

First... Thanks Tim, for posting that information... The images look whacked because for whatever reasons, that's how they create them for meguiars.com. Chris Nemlich has actually been pretty good about taking the images from meguiars.com and cropping them and then uploading them into our Gallery for our use so we don't have all the gray background in our posts. I'll track down the original post above and re-code to show the cropped images.

                (Thanks Chris! )

                Jeff,

As for the areas you've inserted, use the M80 and work a small area for a long time, as in three passes, three different ways as outlined in the how-to article in the How To Forum.

You might even do this twice, if you do be sure you remove the residue from the first application before applying new product as to not adulterate the new product with old product.

If two applications of well worked-in M80 do not work then it will be time to substitute the M83

Thank you for your patience and be sure to show a profile shot of your new Ridgeline. I was at the local Honda dealership and I could hear one calling my name...

When I returned to the computer I edited his post to show the photo and saved it then added my own reply to this thread, but somehow the edit never took?

Ok sounds like I have the plan. Use the #80 in multiple passes if need be. Will look over the instruction here in a bit. Cleaning up the gear from wash job today.

BTW, here is a link to a few pics of my truck on the Honda Ridgeline Owner's Forum. My little pet project is coming along. Getting the windows tinted in 10 hours.

Figured I would throw up some pics of the work thus far. Added Fender Flares, Running Boards, Window Visors & the Side Protectors. Also put the 20" rims/wheels on a few weeks ago. Now I need to order the Tail light frames, a new grill and get geared up for the dealer to put in the Moonroof...

Thanks for all the pointers guys. With the Info provided, I am sure I can get off to a good start. I am sure questions will arise. But I know a good place to find answers. Thanks Guys

That is a great looking truck! The wheels really set it off... Do you have any interior photos? I have only seen one around town and not had a close look yet.

No but I'll be glad to snap a few tomorrow. Dark here now so they would likely not come out well. But I'll put them up for you. No Problem

Thanks for the comments guys. I have never really been into car care nor tweaking vehicles but this new truck has me pretty enthusiastic. Getting expensive though. Bought everything in the Gold line. Tried NXT. The bought everything in the NXT line. Now buying a G-100. I am running out of storage space here.

But, I have a nice selection of products on hand for various purposes, so I don't mind too much. They'll get used.

Gave a big box of my old NON MEG'S products to my neighbor. Said pick what you want and throw the rest in the Garbage.

Thanks for the link for dealing with pics. Will read tomorrow. 10 PM here and my knees are killing me from the days wash&wax.

Thanks again folks. I'll try to get some better pics tomorrow now that she is clean and waxed and after the tint job is done. Won;t forget the inside
