  • DA Throws dust with Swirl X

I have a G110v2 with the 8207 and 9207 Pads. I used Swirl X, Scratch X, Show Car Glaze, and NXT wax.

The results I got are great. However, during all the how to videos to watch I never noticed any fine dust. While doing my car this week, when using the Swirl X(8207) product I noticed a white dust accumulating. It only happened with the Swirl X product. The Polish and Wax went on fine.

I washed and clay'd the car before. I did the work inside of my cool garage. I just cant figure out what it was? Did I use too much product? I think it may have been happening when I went over some of the tapped off sections, but I cant say for sure. Has anyone seen what I'm talking about before?

Did you clean the pad 'on the fly' much? Like working the pad into a terry cloth towel every so often? Can be common if you dont do that.

It could be what Murr mentioned, which can be compounded by too much product.

Sounds like too much pad saturation occuring. I was having similar issues with Ultimate Compound when I first started with the DA and didn't really have much feel for how much product to use.

Another thing to consider is first time use of the W8207 polishing pads - they will often throw off some foam dust left over from the manufacturing process. It tends to be very fine so it won't necessarily appear as yellow as the pad. But as the other guys have mentioned, if you didn't clean the pad on the fly and started to get dried product on the edge of the pad, that will eventually start to release and leave some dust. Heck, just try bumping the pad into a bit of trim and let that "clean" the edge of the pad - you'll see plenty of dust then if you aren't cleaning the pad yourself! Perfectly normal, too, not to see this with the polish and wax as you're using less product, working it less aggressively, and for a shorter period of time. Those products just don't have a chance to build up and dry out.

It could have been just that they were new pads. I threw them in the washer yesterday, and did another portion of the car today. Zero Dust.

I cant say it was the washing for sure, because I also used slightly MORE product. Going back and watching some of the videos it seemed they were giving a more generous amount then I was. Either way no more dust.
