I have a friend who has a low mile 1981 Trans Am with dull, single stage lacquer paint. I told him I'd like to take a crack at trying to bring back a higher level of gloss. He went over it by hand last year with something and it made some improvement, but now he's interested in seeing what I can do with my DA. I have the G110V2 with the yellow and black 7 inch Softbuff 2.0's. I also have Ultimate Compound, M105, and M205. What would be the recommended combo here? I'm thinking I'll start out with the M205 with the yellow polishing pad. I know that lacquer is a delicate paint, so M105 might be too aggressive. Any thoughts?

Re: Single Stage Paint- What Pad/Product?
Keep an eye out today for pictures from last night's Thursday Night Open Garage (May 06). One of the members bought in a 13 year old Nissan with single-stage black paint that was heavily oxidized. By the end of the evening, the transformation was incredible. I think the combo was primarily polishing pads and Ultimate Compound with the DA set to speed 5.

Re: Single Stage Paint- What Pad/Product?
Definitely take a look at the May 6 Thursday Night Garage posting - I was really impressed with the Ultimate Compound results. FWIW - with the results I've recently seen, I've added Ultimate Compound to my list of "must haves" at home.
I also recommend M80 for single stage paints. I have 2 older BMW's with single stage paints and I've found M80 to be very good on Single Stage paints. IIRC - M80 has some polishing chemicals that are particularly good for single stage paints.Andy W.

Re: Single Stage Paint- What Pad/Product?
We brought a single stage black car back to life last night using Ultimate Compound, a G110v2 (several, actually) and a bunch of W8207 pads. Check out this thread for a rundown of the process and notice the condition of the pads when finished. You'll want several pads for this project, trust us!!Michael Stoops
