  • Purchased my G110v2!! Questions though

Greetings fellow MOL associates! My detailing bug kinda goes into hiding during the winter months but it's in full swing now. Just got back on here the other day to find out a new G110 came out (yeah i know I'm way behind). Anyway, washed the Civic for the first time myself since last year and noticed swirl marks So I said, that's it I'm getting a machine. So I place a big order from ADS, G110v2, m205, m105, pads, UWW, etc.

This will be my FIRST time ever using a machine. I tried looking for some good "how-to's" but I can't remember where I saw them. Basically I'm looking for the techniques like what speed to spread the product and what speed to work it in. How long to work it, pressure, etc.

Any threads I can read through here to get to a good starting point? I'm a so psyched you have no idea. I CANNOT wait!

    Thanks everyone. Happy detailing!

My recommendation is to view the video's on youtube. The technique is the same for the DAs so you may want to search for Porter Cable 7424 videos. There are many of them on youtube. Some that some to mind are from Junkman2000. His videos are informative and very entertaining.

Oh my god it's coming today!!!! I cannot wait for this thing. Going to clean up the garage this weekend and get it organized for detailing season

Is it even possible to buy pads in stores? Either Meguiar's or one of its competitors? Sometimes ordering online is a pain, especially if your in a pinch.

I'll try to document my first DA attempt for you guys. Soft Honda paint

Yes, it is possible to buy pads in stores but you generally need to get to an automotive paint store or auto body supply shop. Did you not order pads when you ordered the buffer??? You might be able to find such a store HERE, just make sure to select "Professional Products" before hitting the search button.

Read through the buffer articles linked to in the List 'O Links and you'll find plenty of good tips.

It is, Meguiar's site has a vendor location search. It may be out of date but you might have some in your area. I've found that these are usually paint shops that supply paint to body shops. I thought you ordered some pads?

My recommendation for first use... mark the backing plate with a Sharpie and don't apply enough pressure to stop it's rotation. Work a small area and move the machine slowly (about an inch a second). Some areas need more correction, some less. If it need a lot, M101 is good. If it needs a little, M205 is good. Don't worry too much about damaging the paint but also don't use a product that is more aggressive then you need.

Yes of course I ordered some pads. Just want to know for future reference and because I'm a newb I may go through them quickly. I was just curious.

Thanks for the heads up! The swirls on the Civic are not really that bad. I maintain the finish very well. This winter was just a killer though and I want to get rid of them. Going to hit it with M205 on a Meguiars polishing pad (8207?). Hopefully that takes them out. What's the best way to wash these pads?

Good. Had to ask though - you'd be surprised how often people order a buffer online and neglect to order pads. Then the buffer arrives and they're all excited.... until they realize they need pads and they still can't do anything!!

Take your time with the M205 - it will stay wet for a very long time and let you keep on buffing with it. Great stuff! As for washing the pads, as long as they're all the Soft Buff 2.0 (W8207, W9207) you can just throw them in the washer and dryer. Liquid detergent, no bleach, no fabric softener, no dryer sheets.

Thank you, Mike! Didn't mean to come off like that. And thank you everyone. Been doing this stuff by hand my whole life. Excited to take it to the next level and excited to continue to support Meguiars. It was like christmas for me today. Wait, actually it was better!
