  • What Pads/Products to use? DA 7424

Quick question for your guys... Ive been using a bunch of different combos but not sure on which is best. I am using meguiars M105 - M205 - and Nxt Wax with CCS pads. Which pads should I use for which products? Thanks...!

If you really want to stick with the CCS pads then stick with the following:

M105 - orange pad for heavy cutting, white pad for less aggressive cutting
M205 - white pad for a bit of cut, green or gray pad for final finish polishing
NXT - gray or blue pad

If you're interested in trying the Meguiar's pads, go with the following:

M105 - W8207 yellow polishing pad for defect removal
M205 - W8207 yellow for a bit of cut or W9207 black for final finishing polish. This is paint dependent to some degree as some paints prefer the extra cut provided by the yellow pad while others finish down better with the black pad.
NXT - W9207 black finishing pad

I just read somewhere that I should look into using a Yellow CCS pad for compound following with an Orange CCS pad for polishing... Is this right?

That depends. The LC Yellow pad is very aggressive, more so than our W7207 burgundy cutting pad. What are you working on, what are you trying to accomplish?

Also, with any car that has swirls - should I use yellow or orange pads?

              I plan on using the same combo - M105 - M205 - NXT

I am very much a newb still but I've like this

                    M105 with the yellow pad
                    M205 with the yellow pad
                    m205 with the black pad
NxT x2 with the black pad.

But there are so many types of paint and varibles that it can vary, this is just a poplular one IMO

First off, clay will do nothing for swirls as it only works on above surface, bonded contaminants. You do want to get those out of the way before working with a paint cleaner, but Deep Crystal Step 1 Paint Cleaner is very mild stuff.

It's impossible to make such a broad statement as "with any car that has swirls" since not all paint systems are created equal. We've worked on plenty of soft paints that would be torn up pretty badly by an aggressive pad. If you're intent on staying with the LC pads then go with the orange pad with M105. In all honesty though, you may find Ultimate Compound to be more use friendly and virtually as effective as M105, plus it's a whole lot less expensive and easier to source. Don't forget, M105 is the most potent, aggressive product we make and in most cases for simple swirl removal it's overkill.

No, overkill as in much more aggressive than you probably really need.
