I think the Flex and the G110V2 will be much more powerfull than a G100/7424 with the Dynabride.

I thought the Dynabrade was a DA attachment for a rotary...no?

You'll see some power increase on the 7424 to XP, maybe even a little more power if you get a G110v2. If you have a rotary, I'd stick with learning that tool well and sticking with the 7424 for light polishing.

The Dynabrade attachment for the rotary comes in a couple of variations, or at least it did. One will turn a rotary into a D/A like action, the other is switchable between that and a locked position. This locked position still has a bit of an offset to it, but since it is locked and attached to the rotary mechanism you get what is called a "forced rotation".

If you were to attach a pen or other writing instrument to the face of a backing plate mounted to a D/A and run the machine, you would get a pattern that looks sort of like those old Spyrograph toys from the '70s. Do the same with a rotary and all you get is a perfect circle. Do the same to a forced rotation tool and what you get is a circle with a single wavy line around the perimeter. The pad never fully changes direction like it does with a D/A but rather just sort of wobbles around in a circle due to the offset. Kevin Brown has actually done some of this and has images of same floating around the interwebs somewhere.

In this regard the Dynabrade attachment on a rotary buffer (in the fixed setting) is quite similar to a Flex or other forced rotation tool; you get not only a similar motion but a tool that is direct drive and so won't bog down under even very heavy pressure.

As for wondering about upgrading from the PC 7424 to the PC 7424XP, why not go with a G110v2 instead? Similar power, but in equal steps between speed settings, our "cruise control" feature that will supply more torque when the tool starts to bog a bit under pressure, and it vibrates less and is quieter than the XP. Plus it comes with a spiffy Meguiar's logo'd canvas bag and our W68DA backing plate.

              Just sayin'
