  • Planning on Getting the New Dual Action Polisher

First, let me say that although I do not have much to offer in the way of posts, I love reading the great information that is shared here; thank you to all of the regular posters. I am not a detailer, just someone that is trying to take care of my own cars; so to say I have much to learn is an under-statement.

That said, I am getting ready to order the new DA and have a few questions. 1) How often and how do I need to clean the pads? I plan on using the DA to apply ColoerX and SwirlX. 2) What is the typical life expectancy of a pad? 3) is there benefit of applying NXT wax with the DA? By benefit, I mean in terms of the effectiveness of the protection; I don't mind applying wax by hand, but would use the DA if it improves anything.

Thanks so much for your advice or for pointing me to any helpful threads on this topic.

Cleaning on the fly. That involves taking a cotton towel and placing it over the head of the machine, turning it on and applying pressure. It draw the product out of the pad instead of it getting dried and caked in. You may want to get some foam pad cleaner such as http://www.autogeek.net/snappytool.html or http://www.autogeek.net/dp730.html and allow the pads to soak in that after your done for the day with that pad.

Life expediency depends on how you take care of it. Some people get pads to last 5 years or more. Lots of different things can happen to shorten the length of the pad.

And applying the wax with a DA can put down a more even, uniform coat with less product, which is good because then you're getting the right amount of product on the surface without wasting any.
