  • Re: Dual Action Polisher G110v2

Ordered a G110v2 and received it today. It came with the 6" backing plate, but I mistakenly ordered 8" pads to use with it. Is it going to hurt anything if I use the 8" pads with this backing plate?

Also, does the W65DA 8" backing plate fit the G110v2?

You can use the 8" pads on the W68DA backing plate that came with the tool, and yes, the W65DA backing plate will fit the G110v2.

Ideally though, you don't really want to use 8" pads with a D/A as they are probably large enough to compromise overall performance. That single inch of extra diameter means a surface area increase of roughly 30%, and the larger pad you use on a D/A the less cut you have, all else being equal (pad construction, speed, pressure, etc). If you can exchange those 8" pads for the Soft Buff 2.0 7" pads then we would recommend you do so.

Is the spindle/bearing problem been fixed in v2?

v2 is a serious upgrade all around and is getting heavy use at Manheim Auctions where, in Riverside alone, they recondition 375 cars per day. The G110v2 is doing great under those extreme conditions.

What else does one need to know before purchasing one, this a true testament to the G110v2. They encounter more cars in a day or two than most of us will ever in a lifetime.

Oh, that sounds great! Now were talking. Great work!
But has v2 forced spinning? Or is it the same as v1? Like a "clutch" function. Stops rotating if the pressure is to hard?

Looks like I'll have to settle with a PC-7424 XP unless someone knows how I can get a hold of this?
I actually had a chance to hold it and buy it at the Toronto AutoShow this year.

I was to buy it but couldn't find an ATM anywhere around. Price was good too...

                  Maybe next year.

The G110v2 has some major quality issues. My first one lasted me 1 month before it started to short out. When I took it into Megs in Irvine they knew about the problem right away. When I got my replacement in the mail the G110v2 made a grinding noise and the Back Plate spun freely when the power was off. So I took that in and Megs replaced it again.

Megs chemicals are GREAT, but their hardware has some problems. My SoftBuff Polishing Pad delaminated from the velcro also.

One thing I have to give to Megs is that they stand by their products and will do what it takes to make it right. They truly have a World Class customer service policy. I just wish the DA were at the same level.

We do apologize for the issues you've had with this tool, but with all due respect we do not have "major quality issues" with it. As noted above, Manheim Auctions is using this tool with incredible success. Yes, there have been posts here on MOL about failures of the G110v2, just as there are threads on AutoGeek and other detailing forums about failures of another very popular D/A tool.

You have to keep it all in perspective though. How many complaints can you find online about the G110v2 (or that competitors tool, for that matter) versus the literally thousands and thousands that have been sold? It's almost like any car forum dedicated to a specific make and model of vehicle - all of them have a slew of complaints about that vehicle mostly because they are enthusiast forums dedicated to that vehicle, and therefore a great resource for information when things go wrong. And, quite frankly, things can go wrong with anything (just ask the folks at Toyota who have been faced with horrifically negative PR of late). As for your pad failure, do some forum searching on a major competitors pad failures of late and you'll find plenty. But again, for the same reasons as stated above, and in the context of the volume sold it's minuscule.

Still, we fully understand that reading about someone else's issues is one thing, but experiencing them first hand is something quite different. Annoying, frustrating, irritating... sometimes even infuriating.

Heck, I've got a rotary buffer at home that was made by a highly regarded tool company (all they do is power tools) and it died after a whopping 3 hours of use - but also after enough calender time that the warranty was expired. And they would do NOTHING for me. NOTHING. Would I buy another tool from them? Yep, and I have. Why? Because I understand that my experience, though annoying and frustrating (and, yes a bit infuriating as I was in the middle of buffing out a customer's car), was not the norm.

I do believe that the G110V2 does indeed have quality issues with the cord. Plenty of people are having the exact same issue with the cord not working. It isn't due to user error. It's a quality/design issue with the cord. It has happened with units straight out of the box and some with a few uses. Does Meguiars customer support replace the units in question with brand new units, yes, but that isn't fixing the problem with the cord. They are simply giving you another unit with the same faulty cord. I have read about the replacement polisher having the exact same malfunction.
Yes Toyota had a problem with cars pedals sticking. Did they say "bring your car back and we will exchange it for a new car with the same exact part that malfunctioned"? No. They recalled the parts and studied what was wrong and issued a fix. There will be some Toyota cars that won't ever have the pedal sticking, but that clearly doesn't mean there isn't a design issue. Saying that Manheim uses the polisher for dozens of hours means nothing. You think Toyota could say "we have customers that have been driving their Prius' for years and their pedals never stuck"? True the Toyota issue could be a life or death issue, but meguiar's clearly has a problem with the cords and a fix needs to be made instead of just sending out a replacement unit with the exact same design/quality issue. I purchased a G110V2 and sold it. I purchased a Porter Cable instead. I didn't want to wait until I was in the middle of polishing for the V2 to fail. With all that being said,I LOVE meguiar's products but the polisher has issues that need to be fixed, not just replaced with another unit with the same problem. Until they come up with a fix,I'll stick with the tried and true.

I am fairly new to detailing..but I will have to be honest..I have been turned off buying a G110v2 with the problems that have been written and have a Flex XC on order..
This not to say I won't get one in the future so I can have two DAs...just it seems some more product design/development has to done...

My G110V2 has taken everything I have thrown at it without the slightest whimper. I'm guessing so far that includes over 100 full body details as well as many, many spot jobs and wax only applications. The G110V2 and 205 alone is worth the price of admission. I wish a had a dollar for every, "Man, what'd you use on it?" I've heard.
