  • I'm getting ready to order a G110 (need help from Mike?)

So I'm ordering the G110 very soon once I get confirmation from Mike or an experience detailer on my package. I will working on 3 cars total. 2 cars are from my sister that I will work on occasionally and the other car is my own which I will be working on most of the time.

I have the 3 step for Deep Crystal System and will be using the first 2 steps and for the wax I will be using NXT 2.0.

BTW, I'm buying all this from autogeek.net because they have the best prices!

    G110 comes with 2 orange CCS pads - $140 (http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars-dua...sher-g110.html)

3 Pack -White Polishing CCS Smart Pads™ DA 5.5 inch Foam Pads - $20
3 Pack - Gray Finishing CCS Smart Pads™ DA 5.5 inch Foam Pads - $20

Comes out with the total of $180 shipped.

Should I get anything else or other polishes other than the ones I have? Will the paint cleaner and polisher work fine? I read through the forums but it has nothing for the products I want to use so I'm just wondering if I can use those products or if I should invest in the professional line like the Mirror Glaze #80, etc...

Do I use the Orange/White pad with the paint cleaner and the White pad with the polisher, and then the Gray pad with the NXT 2.0 wax? Or what is the correct steps?

My obvious choice would be to say get the Flex because it's superior to both but if that's out of your price range then you might want to hold off a bit since the NEW Porter Cable PC7424 is due out at Autogeek in two weeks and has a stronger motor (comparable or better than the G110), a new ergonomic design, and some other minor improvements. Price range will be just above current PC7424 pricing. Do a comparison between those two before buying...

As for pad sizing choice I like the smaller pads because they provide more "bite" and add to your correction ability as well as being a better fit into some tighter body contours and size-restricted areas. I would go with at least 3 of each type of pad (light cutting/polishing) as a base and work from there. I use at least 3 of the 5.5" pads and a few 4" pads on one vehicle and that is with cleaning on the fly. As for a "finessing" or "finishing" pad you can get by with just one. I never like to have just one of any pad available. What if something happens to it? Gets lost, dirty, needs to be washed, is damaged, etc? Are you going to wait around for the UPS man to get another one?

As for the pricing I caution you to make sure you have ALL you need before tackling this project...and it'll be a LOT more than $200. Obviously you're going to wash and clay the surface first. Do you have what you need to properly wash? The buckets, grit guards, proper car shampoo, proper mitt, etc? How about clay, clay lubricant? Good microfibers? Auto tape to mask off the car while polishing? IPA wipedown in between polishing steps and inspecting work? Proper lighting (like a Brinkmann Dual Xenon) to verify your work? An LSP for after polishing has been completed?

It's far more than just ordering a kit and attacking the paint. Make sure you have everything you need to properly complete the 5-step paint care process. Do a search and you'll find all the info you need on what products are the bare minimum to complete the process and insure a beautiful, swirl-free finish.

As for the compound I'd say go M105/M205 as this will correct any defects the power of a DA can handle. Since you're looking for something less aggressive I highly recommend Meguiar's Ultimate Compound as it has worked well for me and many others here and finishes LSP-ready in 99% of cases I have seen...
Thanks for the response. I might wait 2 weeks then to see if the price is cheaper. The G110 is only $140... The current 7424 is $130. The NEW 7424 should cost about $140 too so the only thing that can make me go with the NEW 7424 is if they offer lifetime warranty.

I already have all the products to tackle this project other than the lighting. I already researched up on the 5-step paint care process and any other stuff but there aren't anything on the products I wanted to use. I keep seeing m80 as something that is recommended. I don't think I need something as aggressive as a compound like the Meguiar's Ultimate Compound.
