  • Question about decals...

The transmission gave up the ghost in my daily driver over the weekend, forcing me to buy a new (to me, anyway) vehicle. I picked up this 2007 Dodge Charger:

The finish is in great shape and doesn't appear to need anything more than the attention of a clay-bar and some plain old polish. (No spiderwebs to try and buff out, so no DACP)

My concern, however, is the decals on the car. The pics don't show it very well, but there are two large black stripes on the hood, two small black "Charger" decals on the rear quarterpanels, and two more large black stripes on the trunk.

I've never had these sorts of decals on a car before and I'm unsure of the proper way to care for them. The last thing I want to do is damage them or cause them to start peeling off.

Is it safe to use a tool like the G100A on these decals? Are there any polish/cleaner/etc products that are unsafe for use on these decals? Is waxing them safe? Any tips for keeping them intact and looking good for the long haul?

The first thing to do would be to contact the manufacture and ask them for a specific product recommendation for a product that's safe for your decals and that will maintain their appearance value and please share what they tell you in a follow-up post to this thread.

Besides the above first step option, read through the below thread from a member with a similar or the same car...

    How To Maintain Vinyl Graphics/Stickers/Stripes/Decals

Do not run any kind of machine over these types of graphics. They may look cool but you will find them to be their own dedicated project to maintain besides the paint on the car.

Avoid accidentally pushing your wax applicator pad over them and getting wax or polish on them. Avoid rubbing any of the corners or tips as you will cause them to lift.

Read through the above thread I posted a link to and after reading it make your own judgment call as I posted in the above thread multiple time that Gold Class Trim Detailer is not for graphics and to test in an inconspicuous area first.

Car looks beautiful. I'm sure you'll find a care system to keep it looking nice.

You have some Mercedes bloodlines in that car. Some suspension components and things based off previous E and S class Mercedes. Chargers thus have a great ride IMHO! Enjoy.
