  • G110\220 Questions

Since i am in the UK i am lucky enough to already own a G220 and think you guys at Megs have produced a fantastic unit. I do have a few questions which i guess at the moment Megs will be the only peopl who can answer.

    1) What is the speed\OPM for each speed setting on the unit.

    2) Do the speed settings on the G110\220 match the PC speeds or is there an adjustment i should make to all PC related material regarding speed settings.

    3) Should the same amount of pressure be applied to the head of the G110\220 as the PC i.e. 1 rev per second

    Thanks
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

Here's the link to our Dual Action Comparison Chart, it should answer most of your questions.

    Dual Action Polisher Comparison Chart

    As for your last question,
    3) Should the same amount of pressure be applied to the head of the G110\220 as the PC i.e. 1 rev per second
We've never had a recommendation as far as how many revolutions per second you should be seeing when using the polisher because there are way too many variables that affect whether the pad rotate or not.

Off the top of our head, here's a few things, we're sure there are other factors we're just not thinking of as we type on the fly...

    1. How flat or angled the person is holding the pad to the surface
    2. Whether or not the person is holding the pad against a body line or curve.
    3. Type of pad and product the person is using
    4. Speed the polisher is set to
    5. Amount of downward pressure

Here's the big picture, whenever your doing the cleaning step, that is whenever you're removing defects by removing paint, you want to apply firm pressure but not so much that the pad quits rotating.

How a person holds the polisher and the pressure they use will always have to be tempered and adjusted as they're working on the paint and the shape of the panels they're working on change.

    Does that makes sense?

Sorry about that, try it now!

When we were tweaking the code to make the tables lay out in a more friendly way for the forum we were working between copies of the thread and we inadvertently included the link to the bad copy which is in the Moderators Forum.

Sorry about that, we fixed the code so it should work fine now and we'll add a link to this in the "Site Navigation" box on the right hand column of the home page.

thanks mike, works a charm now and a brilliant chart, i will pass it onto the guys on the megs uk forum for them to have as well

i guess from the chart i will work on the principle if something says to work the product in at speed 5 on the pc this would be speed 4 on the g220

Balance your speed setting to your skill level and what you see happening on the surface and the results you're getting.

Sounds like a good rule of thumb.

Personally I haven't used the new polisher enough to know all of it's subtle nuances because just like all the new products, there have not been any at Meguair's in Irvine for us to use.

Hopefully when we get into the office next week for the Extreme Makeover there will be a few production models we can use and start getting used to.
