  • Using #9 with a PC

    Hi,

This forum rocks..learning more and more every day...

I'll be using #80 initially to do a more thorough job of cleaning/removing defects prior to NXT...and will use probably 2-3 times a year..

But for the many other detailings in between...I'll go with #9 to clean and prep the paint before waxing...assuming no major defects have reappeared.

Can I use the same protocol ( as per Mike in his DVD using M80) using #8006 pad at 5 speed? Removing similarly to the M80? Also skipping past applying a pure polish as #7 due to the #9 being a cleaner/polish?

    Thanks again...

if you're asking can you use the same process. the answer is YES.

will it work. who knows. you might need a more aggressive product such as M83. Mike skips using #7 after M80 because M80 has enough oils in it that you don't really need #7. but if you want, you can add it in.

do a test spot and see.

    Wash
    Clay
    M83
    M80
    Pure Polish if you want
    wax x 2

the DVD is great b/c it explains a lot of things.

once your car is how you want it to be you can maintain by.

    wash
    clay if need
    Colour-X
    #7
    Wax x 2

by the way are you talking about #9 (swirl remover 2.0)?

why not use #6 or #66 to maintain in between. you can get great results if you care for your car properly by washing it by hand with two bucket system and just keep it clean.

    wash
    clay
    6 or 66
    Wax x 2

also QD and a quality MF helps in between your wax jobs as well.

You don't have to use a pure polish like #7 or DC polish because even though #9 is a kind of cleaner/poilsh, it is full of polishing oils which will give your paint a nice shine followed by a good wax. A pure polish after #9, particularly on a dark colour is supposed to enhance the depth of the reflection. On a light colour car you may not notice much difference by adding a pure polish to the combination. If you have some lying around give it a go for yourself and see what you think.

I'm actually in the process of doing a major detail to my car but gave up due to getting late and my halogen light blew so I packed the car away in the garage and will continue in the morning. My process is wash, clay, #80, #9, DC2 polish followed by polymer sealant. Just finished the #9 before calling it a night. Just with the #80 and #9 the tranformation is already amazing. Photos will be added to the "show off" section sometime tomorrow.

its not that it won't do the same job on a light coloured car, because it will, its just that you won't notice as much because of the colour difference in say black v.s white.

if a pure polish does one thing to one colour, it'll do that to another car.

its your eyes playing tricks on you.

Re: Using #9 with a PC

I personally have found that #80 leaves a better finish then #9 in terms of gloss. This is because the oils in #80 are very simliar (or the same) as the oils in #7. #09 uses different oils (or so it seems). I have never noticed a difference in following #80 with a pure polish, although I have noticed a slight improvement in following #9 with #7.
