Taped off areas - post steps

What is the correct procedure for prepping the areas that has been taped off.
After taping off the car and applying #80 and NXT with the PC the time has come to remove the tape. The area under the tape, inside doors and hood is still untreated. Those areas should obviously bee treated by hand. So should I just go ahead and treat those areas by hand with #80 and NXT or would a better choice bee to use Scratch X, #81 and NXT by hand in those areas.
What do you guys do?

I don't know the best method - but I just work the untreated areas with some Step 1,2 and GC or NXT wax.
