      Hey RRaider

With the DA polisher, the most common pads are the 6.5" with the Meguiar's W-64DA backing plate. Porter Cable DA's (G100)come with either a 5" or a 6" counter weight. As a result, if you use an 8" pad, you may get extreme vibrations at higher speeds.

The 8" pads are more often used with the rotary. However, even then the 6.5" pad is far easier to control, and is easier to deal with on car's with complicated contours.

I find that pads over 6.5" are too much for the PC. It tends to just "jiggle" instead of maintaining a true d/a motion. FWIW, I find any pad over *4"* to compromise it to some extent. Consider that the PC is designed to use a single sheet of sandpaper. Compare the weight of that with the weight of a foam pad loaded with product. It's not a subtle difference

Like 2HotFord, I seldom use anything larger than 6.5" on the rotary either.
