  • gum in carpet!!! HELP!!

so after taking such great care of the interior or my xterra for the 6 months i've had it, it only takes a few minutes for my grandmother-in-law to get gum all over the floor mat (about 6 spots) in the back seat. (she's old, plus it could happen to anyone, can't blame her) Either way, I can't stand it and need to get it out when i get home today. Any suggestions???

    thanks

    Goo Gone should work.

It will dissolve the gum so you can pull it out with something, wash rag might work. Then you need to get the Goo Gone out...

Vegetable oil should work too as the oil will dissolve the gum.

The problem is after you get the gum liquidy then you need to somehow get it out of the fibers, not super easy to do.

Another option would be to contact one of the local, reputable details shops and ask them if they can handle this job and let them deal with it.

The other thing you could try is get your hands on sprayaway gum remover from ADS. You could also get a can of dust off and hold it upside down when you spray. Both of these product will freeze the gum and you break the gum into pieces as you remove it.

I've heard of people having good luck just using some ice packed onto the gum to harden it enough to break it up and get it off carpet. Maybe put some Saran wrap on the carpet of put the ice in a sandwich bag?

        Never tried it myself.

I have and it works , leave the icepack on the gum until its frozen and you can break it off without leaving any residue !

One other thing I will suggest along the lines of freezing - canned air works as well, you just have to use it upside down to freeze the gum.

I have personally done this and it worked quite well. It took a couple of applications but after about 15 minutes of work all was well.

There is a freeze spray that will harden the gum, then just use the edge of the plastic top to scape it out it works great. Most janitorial places carry the freeze spray.

used canned air, worked like a charm, took about 10 minutes, but i got all 6-7 spots out, it was a little more difficult because it was very thin in some spots, so little bits would come out and others would stick.

                      Thanks everyone!

I use Stoner's Tarminator. Works in seconds........not minutes. Done it so many times.
