  • Help! oil stain on front of dash

    I'm new here.......so HI !!!
I had an oil air freshner attached to an air vent that my grandson accidentally knocked causing it to fall. In the process the oil got on the front of my dash......ummmm, instrument panel, glove compartment and caused streaking. How in the world can I fix this.
My hubby brought this 2006 PT Cruiser home to me as a surprise and I love my cruiser. I keep it in tip top condition and hopefully someone can give me some good advice about this problem.

Sometimes those kind of oils, etc really attatch themselves pretty good. But, the bestthing to try would be a dedicated cleaner, then put a dressing over the dash.

The cleaners you could use are #39 Rubber and Vinyl Cleaner, Heavy Duty Carpet and Interior Cleaner, or the All-Purpose Cleaner.

There are quite a lot of dressing to pick from, but Nxt Tech Protecant or Natural Shine are two good choices to start with.

I have nothing to add beyond Murr1525's comments, but as a fellow devoted PT Cruiser owner I just want to welcome you to MOL!!

If these oils have penetrated into the surface, it may be impossible to completely remove or undo the staining effect.

At this point you need to apply and work in a cleaner and after working this in and then removing it, apply a vinyl dressing to condition and protect.

One option would be to keep this simple since you're really in a go/no go situation in that either it can be fixed or it can't be fixed and at this point more and more work and more and more products are not going to be the determining factors.

Simple approach: Head to your local auto parts store and look for either Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant or [URL="http://www.meguiars.com/?vinyl-rubber-plastic-protectants/Gold-Class-Vinyl-Rubber-Protectant"][B][COLOR="Blue"]Gold Class
