  • Boxster engine detail

Has anyone detailed a Boxster engine compartment? To gain access to the engine you detach the convertable top from the rear and fold it out of the way. Once the engine cover is removed you have access to the engine but the car's interior is also open. How do you keep the water, cleaner, etc out of the interior? I've tried masking with plastic but it didn't work very well.

    Ideas?

Hi Dave. Sorry that this one sort of got away from us here, and we're a bit surprised that nobody else has responded to your question yet.

There are a couple of recent threads on waterless or rinseless engine detailing at the following:

These guys have gotten great results without resorting to a full rinse from the hose. That alone should go a long way to eliminating overspray as you clean the engine bay of the Boxster. If masking the area with plastic is tricky in that you can't find a good way to secure the plastic, you may want to lay the plastic down first and then place some old terry towels on top of it to hold it in place better. You should be able to tuck the towels into some areas and they'll do a great job of absorbing some light overspray from your cleaners and degreasers, plus the plastic beneath them will prevent those liquids from soaking through the towels.

Sounds like you're going to have to be a bit inventive here and experiment a little. Any pictures of the exposed engine bay so maybe we can a clearer idea of what you're up against?

Anthony Orosco did a Cayman engine not to long ago which may help. He is a MOL member too so you can PM him if you like.

Hey guys, I was wondering what would be the best combination for a 2004 Infiniti G35 (softer clear from what I hear). I have the UDM along with all the DAS pads except the scratchbuster. For all my non-polishing steps I have the full line of Zaino. I did a full detail over the 4th, but the...

Here is how I detailed the engine of my Fit. I guess you could consider it rinse less. The only rinse water I use comes from a spray bottle, and I usually don't use more than 1/2 of the bottle.

Thanks everyone, for all your suggestions. I will post some photos next time I have the engine compartment open. In the mean time I'll try some of the waterless products.
