  • Cleaning an engine with just ONR, APC, and Hyper Dressing

OK, so I've read a few threads regarding rinseless engine washing. Being that I am a nervous wreck about getting a hose under my hood, I decided to give the rinseless method a go. I haven't cleaned under my hood in about a year and a half, so it was mostly dust and some dirt.

    Before

    Process
Spray down with ONR diluted in a spray bottle
Spray dirtier areas with APC 4:1
    Scrub with brush
    Spray down with ONR
Wipe dry what I could reach with microfiber
Spray HD (diluted between 3:1 and 2:1), let dwell for a few minutes
    Wipe dry with microfiber
UQW on catalysts and strut bars

Stand back and admire the work!

    After

All in all, I think it turned out quite well. It's definitely not perfect, but it's not a show car, so that's okay. And considering this was my first time doing a rinseless anything, I was rather pleased. Please feel free to comment. Thanks for looking!

I do this quite a bit, actually. For a daily driver, doing a manual wipe down with APC+ followed by Hyper Dressing is good enough. It gets to about 95% of the dirt and gunk, and that's good enough for the average DD.

For a show car, a more thorough job makes sense.

You've given this "newb" a much appreciated game plan for his cleaning his engine.

I was confused about whether ONR and a m/f would be enough to take APC off the engine surface. No experience. And fear of staining something.

              Looks good.

If your looking for a little more cleaning power in the future without involving the hose then try dipping your brush in a bucket of soap and water and then proceed with agitation.

And after you spray the Hyperdressing and let it sit for a few minutes, wipe down with a rag soaked in Hyperdressing and not just a dry one. Seems to help spread out the dressing smoother.

Thanks for the advice Nick! I'll keep that in mind for next time.

CieraSL, how did you have the ONR diluted?
