  • u think ill be fine?

well right now i got a DA and i done a few jobs n one complete car that needed cut, polish, wax.

a friend was there when he seen me do that car

i recently showed him my business card... i told him ima just be doing this on the side..maybe a car or 2 a month maybe 3...for extra cash..im not getting that serious into this yet...

he said i need another machine cuz mine is insufficient...i have the gg6.

i said how does it stuff and he said it just doesn't do enough. u need this machine and he googled something n he showed me a rotary buffer...i told him thats a makita, thats direct drive...i told him those are far more dangerous and i didnt wanna risk burning anyones paint...i told him with my machine its safer...and it can do almost the same thing is the makita it will just take longer...n he insisted my machine sucked...but i iant tripping cuz i know my machine can do wonders.

but he said im not gona get any customers since im not licensed or insured...and i told him i was not going to be doing this all the time...yet...just a few side jobs...

wat do u guys think?do u get customers for those of u that just do this side job?

Once Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction System launches it's gonna close a gap between rotary buffers and DA polishers.

When you lay your hands on very expensive cars and something goes wrong then business insurance may be definitely helpful. Orange peel removal, deep sanding, heavy compounding are pretty risky jobs and may cause paint burn through.

Your Griot's Garage DA polisher is a safe machine and should keep you on the risk free side. Did you see the jobs which our Administrator, Mike Stoops, completed in Meguiar's Garage with DA polisher?

Many professional detailers prefer rotary buffers because time is money and they need to complete jobs pretty quickly.

There are people in this world who feel that it is their responsibility to discourage others, even when they have absolutely no knowledge of the topic. fficeffice" />

You know what your tool is capable of, your skill level and what your comfortable doing.

Don't let guys like this discourage you.

Guy's that like that make me angry. I ride Harley's and you see that type of personality thrive within the culture.

If you're comfortable with DA, then stick with the DA. If/when you decide to move to a rotary, do it at your own pace. Dont let anyone pressure you into doing ANYTHING. It's best to become proficient what you know, instead decent and what you have in my opinion.

Keep at it! I've seen some (very patient) people do some amazing things with a DA.

Re: u think ill be fine?

Old school body shop guys often make this claim that a D/A is insufficient for polishing paint, but that's usually rooted in their need to remove sanding marks and the fact that many years ago there simply weren't any sufficiently powerful D/A style tools on the market. You can't really blame these guys since they're basing their opinion on personal experience - even though those experiences date back many years.

But a quick look through detailing forums like MOL and others will show plenty of before/after corrections on every car imaginable, all done with nothing more than a lowly D/A. Don't misconstrue that - we we aren't saying all threads show work done with just a D/A, we're saying that are plenty where D/A only was indeed the case. Just take a look through the threads from our Saturday Classes - all kinds of different cars, all kinds of different paint and paint defects, and we never pull out a rotary in those classes. Heck, for the past couple of years we haven't even used any Mirror Glaze Pro Products, just little ol' Ultimate Compound.
