  • Claying

I learned this trick at a detail seminar after you wash the car you clay it while still wet, just run the clay over it I've done it on the last two cars that way and it worked great I can clay the car in about 10-15 min just keep a hose close incase it gets to dry, anybody else try this

I also clay while wet but I make sure there is a good amount of soap to act as a lube. If not, the clay will smere.

I wash the car then rinse and refill bucket with soap water and then start claying. I have used both gold class and NXT wash for this and they work well. However I prefer to use the 39 body shine Lube spay that comes with Clay Magic. Meguire's QD works great also!

when I use soap to clay, (being right handed) I keep the wash mitt in left hand and the clay in the right hand. I then cover the panel with soapy water and sit my left hand above the panel that I'm claying. This works well and the soapy water runs down panel as your claying.

I have also mixed car wash and water in a spray bottle, but I like the mitt method better for some reason, more sud's and seem more slippery.

        ??

I was just wondering if claying while washing is just as effective as clay using the lube?Greg.

For some reason I prefer the 39 body shine(that comes with it) or Meguiar's QD. I noticed I have removed lots of contaminates both ways. So It's hard to tell.

I wonder if the surface was not quite as slick if the clay would pick up more or less? or maybe pick up more with risk of marring? I'm confused. Good question though! Curious to see what others have to say.

when claying I: Wash, rinse, clay, Then rinse. Also use the soap and water as lube and do one section at a time! When done with whole car go back with a final rinse with water. Last thing is drying. Never used anything but soap for lube seems to cost too much for the pre-made stuff soap and water is allready there so ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

              ~One man’s opinion / observations~

As long as you glide the Clay across the area in a front to back in a straight-line aquaplaning type motion water or a ‘lube will work (I prefer to use a lube though)

              ~Hope this helps~

After claying a section using your method above, do I need to rinse it quickly or can I clay the whole area lubing it with soap and water and go to the next panel.

I didnt explain it right um.. wash & rinse car. then use the left over soap & water in your bucket as lube. just soak: rag, brush, sponge, or wash mitt in bucket and wipe on area to lubricate. then put clay in water and rub clay back and forth until acheived results. rinse. (when using soap do small area at time and rinse section when done, also do final rinse when done with whole car!) hope this helps

I find that soap tends to degrade the clay much more quickly.

We use water, and lots of it...
