  • Need opinions on wax/sealer pricing?

I'm starting a mobile detailing business which has three base packages. All have some form of wax included, but I was charging extra to use a sealer. Is this a bad practice or confusing to customers? The reason I ask is I have another topic going about wax and sealer, in which two members thought it might be confusing. The last thing I want to do is confuse my customers, although I also feel it is my duty to educate them on my services.

Here's how I decided on my packages:

Express- for those that want a clean car, protection but don't feel the need for a full detail. A normal car wash just isn't enough. This is supposed to be an inexpessive quick detail package with a one step cleaner wax included in the base like D151.

Tradtional- for those who care for there cars and want that new vehicle feel again. Light paint correction is included in this package. I was going to make this a two step polish/wax process in which D205 is used followed with a wax.

Pro- for those that want a show car shine. All of the traditional perks will be included but with added paint correction including wet sanding, high speed buffing , or whatever it takes for a mirror show car shine.

I was going to use a paint sealer as a upgrade to these packages (M21). The upgrade on the Express would be more as it does not include claying in the base price.

What are your thoughts on this? I feel pretty confident the upgrade on the Express is ok because it will involve two extra steps which is easy to explain. The other packages are my concern. Do I offer a paint sealer or a wax for the same price or just go with M21 period ?

    Thanks Mike

For your express package, I would not use D151 I would use D-150 X-Press wax. For your Pro package, I would offer them wax or sealant at the same price. For the Traditional package, I think thats where I would use D151.

Would you offer a sealant as an upgrade to the Express or Traditional packages then ?

Actually the more I thought about it this weekend offering a upgrade is pointless to that package. The individual that wants the Express detail is more than likely looking at cost period so I need to keep it simple and inexpensive.

I like the idea you gave me on the waxes. I think that's how I will start. Since the D151 can cut, polish and wax it fits perfect in a two step process for my traditional detail. All I have to do is swap pads not chemicals and pads.

        Thanks for the idea !

In addition, putting a sealant/LSP on a non-prepped surface is also arguably "pointless" because it will not provide an even coat and do its job; which is to "seal" the paint. Because of the fact that impurities may, and probably will be present on the surface of cars that are not merely "maintenance" clients of yours, it may or may not offer an improved degree of protection for the aforementioned reason. Acquiring new knowledge will not only save the customer money, but will more importantly build your credibility and rapport with your clients in the long run. Both are things that allow you to become a successful business owner.

All the best in getting your business off the ground.
