    Re: Strange People

Of my 3 jobs, I was told that I gave a pretty good deal. I do explain what process I do on the paint and interior and show them what their paint looks like under the best light conditions....The sunlight. No complaints so far.....but, only 3 jobs, not enough to complain.

Chin up, you do a great job and the cars you do turn out great and the conditions you have to do the cars is fabulous!

    Keep up the good work!

      Re: Strange People

I always find it interesting that people spend so much money on their cars, but have a problem paying for proper detailing!

I know someone that has a new Mercedes (~$35k), but wouldn't buy a container of NXT wax because it was "expensive".
He ended up buying the cheapest wax he could (despite my insistence)!

One thing you also have to keep in mind is that here on MOL most of us are detail fanatics. Your average joe isn't going to notice swirls and imperfections like you do because they simply don't care that much. What they want to see is a nice clean shiny car which unfortunately isn't what we also want to do (we'd much rather go all the way and get it to perfection) but like you said, you have to cater to your customer's desire.

Perhaps for a one stepper you could offer to use D151, telling them it will take out some swirls at the cost of the wax not being quite as durable etc.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

        I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
        Remove swirls my friends.

            Re: Strange People

yea great thread... but IMO i think that its important to create the perfect detailing finish, in order to maintain your reputation. As most customers have less knowledge of our wonderful detailing world, they may say that our recent work was not as maximum as others (because they chose a lower package - e.g. the D151)..
but all in all, real customers always thrusts and expects the car detailer to get the best result out of their car..

              Re: Strange People

bump this topic. very good points from everyone. I'm sure we can all take something from this thread and apply it to our next job. Good point made by people just wanting a shiney car, the just waxed look, but all we see is a shiney car with a bunch of swirls in it. From being a customer in the retail world, to being a salesman in the retail world, in all situations the customer is always right, just give them what they want. You can take the time to educate them if they want, but giving them what they want will go far with word of mouth.
