On most of my details, the paint is clayed and then a two step process (usually M80 then NXT 2.0), wheels and tires are cleaned and tires dressed, exterior trim is dressed, metal and chrome is polished, headlights are polished, interior vacuum, all carpets are shampooed with APC+ and a PC brush, leather is treated with a three step process, interior pieces are cleaned and dressed. The usual price is $125, but people around here are cheap.

I charge $100 up for interiors the (works), exteriors run about $100 up, complete buff outs start at $250.

Never charge without seeing the vehicles, always inspect and charge accordingly.

Been thinking for friends and family do a complete buff out for $125. Wheel ells cleaned, engine bay cleaned, the works. Treat it like my car and a hobby night. No it is not great dollars/hour but it will be fun, and great advertisement. Besides, earning kudo points with family members is always a good thing. Family and friends for single steps (151) and full interior would probably run half that.

If I am ever lucky enough to strike out detailing customer cars I'd want prices a little lighter than Joes. Perhaps $125 for a single step + interior and $200+ for a complete buff out. 200 being lightly swirled decent looking car, 300 being something real swirled up.

Does that also include defect removal? How many passes over the paint are you making?

Depending on the defect. Generally for scratches like cobweb swirls, yes. If it is a full buff out of scratches to a safe paint thickness, no. I will however will take a few pass to reduce a straightline scratch on say a door panel. Generally I will make only one pass per product.

Currently my customer base wants their car detailed. Which means the whole car has to look likes its new. Generally it will take me a complete detail in 8-9 hours. Meguiars products have allowed me to get results that are outstanding, in an effective and timely manner. (thats why I generally make one pass per product) My customers aren't looking for perfect paint, in fact most see a car's paint differently than we (detailers) do. I have gotten gleaming compliments from customers on how the car's paint looks so good, and I am feeling guilty and thinking I could have done a better job and spent more time on it.

I average around $20.00 an hour for what I do after expenses.I try to calculate a $30.00 an hour rate, times how long I fill it will take to do the job.I am usually pretty close sometimes I come out ahead,sometimes not.but its still good money for a part-time gig.
