Really any insurance carrier (or to make it easier - maybe consult a broker).

          Re: Insurance

To get back on topic, any insurance company will work. Some add a policy to their homeowners insurance to cover them.

When I checked into insurance with the same company that does my home owners and auto I was surprised it wasn't very much.

Exactly. As I said early on (in this thread) I carry a $2 million umbrella with me and I just got my yearly renewal for $169. Certainly worth the money.

Should the name UMBRELLA be the name that most insurance companies reference this type of insurance with? Also, has anyone that doesn't own their own home purchased this type of coverage?

I only know it as and umbrella and I think that is the industry vernacular.

Whether or not you are eligible for such a policy is contingent upon many factors, like the company your with, whether or not you have the requisite auto coverage etc...

                      Re: Insurance

WOW- i'm scared to come outside now! I called my insurance company a few weeks back but since I can't get a phone signal I forgot to check on this again. So what's the difference between being bonded if thats' the word?

                        Re: Insurance

Bonding is "job specific" to ensure something is completed satisfactorily. It is a type of surety ensuring satisfaction. Insurance is a protection against damage or harm to individuals or property.

When speaking with my agent, they told me the slang term is Umbrella, and the technical term is "personal catastrophe" (in the case of a personal umbrella policy), or "commercial catastrophe" (in the case of a commercial unbrella policy).

On a side note, someone mentioned earlier that neither garage keepers nor general liability would pay to repaint a panel in the case of a rotary burn - that was more of an issue of lack of training. I think this may vary from company to company, but I point blank asked an agent if this scenario would be covered for a car detailer, and she told me as long as there is property damage, it would be covered, even if it was due to sloppy workmanship.
