it may have been asked before, so forgive me if it has.....

I'm about to purchase a rotary and I was wondering if I can get insurance to cover the work I do on customers car, without going through all the red tape of getting my business registered and stuff.

I'm pretty skilled with the PC, but its time to step up to the rotary now.

    Re: insurance

Simple answer....doubtful. Even if you're registered/licensed, etc, you can't buy insurance against messing up someones paint with a rotary. Accidently dropping the rotary on the car might be covered but you can't insure against negligence or incompetance. (Well, maybe through Lloyds of London for some astronomical price since they'll bet on most anything)

Yes, you can become bonded and insured. That is the whole point of insurance, to protect you against your own negligence. Research business insurance or small business insurance. Companies like AIG will write it, you may also look into adding coverage to your current home insurance if you are a mobile detailer or working from home. Its very easy to add and extend this sort of coverage to your business.

        Re: insurance

I'm not saying you can't get insurance, it's just that the garage keepers policy that most mobile detailers have (at least in California) has specific exclusions for coverage of faulty work you perform......they largely cover bodily injury and property damage while the customers vehicle is in your care.

Anyway, as insurance policies vary somewhat from place to place and company to company, make sure you see it in writing that they will pay for a new paint job if you scour the surface of a new Mercedes with a rotary.

If you are not sure you can work on the finish of a vehicle without causing damage; are you sure it is time to step up to using a machine?

Well i've been using the PC for about 7 months now with great success. I'm practicing with my new rotary now. I just want to be safe though. Experienced or not.....everyone is human, and mistake can happen.

hi immaculate! mistakes do and can happen.anyway, like has been stated on here before go to a junk yard-salvage yard or anyplace where you can get some hoods, body panels and practice - practice - practice and then burn some areas get on the edges, you know do the things you don't need to do to a customer car and get the feel for your rotary. feel the panel to see how hot/warm the surface is when you do make a mistake or just feel the area to get an ideal of what your doing period. and the most important thing , be 100% sure you know what your doing before you do a customers car.you can't get every thing out, just make look better,(I LEARNED THE HARD WAY) hope i've helped some
