  • Multiple Questions, Please Read

Hi There. I have been acquiring meguiar's products and sampling to see what works for me. Over the course of the last four months I have a few unanswered questions, that only members perhaps can answer.

    1. Anyone know the hardness of 2000-2005 GM paint? I have 2001 Chevrolet Silverado and am fixing to get a G100 DA. Just wanted to know how aggressive I may have to get. light to medium swirls, few medium scratches.

    2. I tried Quick Detailer this past weekend, and it made my truck "Fog" up with the night air in the exact spots I tried it. My windshield was very hard to see through. I had to wash the QD off to get it back to normal. Everywhere I applied QD, the truck would fog up (attract moisture, humidity) which in turn attracts and sticks the road dirt to the truck. Is there something I should know? I use only High quality megs towels, rags and cleaners.

    3. My Brand new Ultra Plush Chennile wash pad left mega-fuzz on my truck today. My trusk has been waxed and is baby smooth. I had fuzz all over my hands too. Is this normal first time behavior of these wash pads? I used a GC wash mop which was excellent. I like that yellow material better than the chennile I think. What do you think?

    4. How do I safely remove wax from some rough textured black trim and moulding? You know the white marks left from waxing, whats a good safe way to remove? I tried Back to Black, but it is still there. I will be more careful next time.

    5. What do you guys use for wheel well dressing? I have been using my one step tire care product in the wheel wells. It looks great, but I wonder what everyone else uses.

    6. Can I use Scratch-x on my windshield to remove a few light scratches from me trying to remove bugs the hard way? I now use GC bug&tar remover which is awesome. Any thoughts? (I have 1.5 tubes of scratch-x) I heard of another product, but it wasnt meguiar's

Thanks for looking at my post. I wanted to get everything out so I didnt have to make multiple posts. Thanks for your time

Will answer what I think I have "some" experience with.

I find the same with several QDs as I do just about all my detailing at night. IMHO it is not the direct result of the QD but is a result of having a super clean surface. I have no issues with road grime adhering to this but I generally don't have to hit the road right after a QD either. I notice my truck gathers dew quicker than the surrounding vehicles after I QD. But on night when I have not QDed they all dew over at about the same rate.

I use the APC from Meg's. It works great. Once I clean it, I then hit it with GC Trim Detailer or Hyper-Dressing.

I use Hyper-Dressing and have been happy thus far

In the future, it's easier for myself and others to answer question if you limit them to one or two, maybe threed questions per post...

Up to you, but easier for us.

No one knows how hard or soft a finish is until you actually start to work on it. Then you find out. Anyone making any blanket statements that this companies cars have hard paint etc, should have all their posts questioned.

You don't know until you try, whether the paint on the car you're working on is soft or hard. You just don't know.

On the issue of QD, Today I just washed my truck with GC and wiped dry using a Meguiars water magnet (Nice towel BTW). SO my truck is now at its cleanest, and no humidity collects on it. If I QD a spot it atracts the humidity very well, it made me pull over the other night because I had some on my windshield and it was impossible to wipe off using the wipers.
I followed all directions concerning application, and wiped very clean with a Brand new Meguiar's GC MF towel. The finish looks great, nice and clean, but after dark its a dust and bug magnet.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had these issues. Maybe its because I used Meg's Gold Class Paste Wax?? and you (jeff smith) use NXT right?

uhhh, That was last week. I now have GC over NXT. no problems other than to the extent I explained before. What is the average time span between the time you QD and the time you notice this? I can QD at night. I start the truck by doing the hood and finish with the roof. Sometimes by the time I get done, I can already see the dew on the hood. THis is within 5-10 mintes. So yes I get it but it does not seem to be posing a problem for me.

It doesnt matter when I do it, when it gets dark, the truck is covered in fog. I just think the only problem is that I become a road dust magnet

                Your cursed man!!!

I see you are from South Texas. Live close to the water or anything? It sounds like if it's that significant a problem for you I would suspect it's your envornment.

What else have you done to the paint besides use a quick detailer?

Products like Quik Detailer are primarily for use on paint to remove light dust, fingerprints and smudges. In a jam, you could use a quick detailer like product to clean glass, that is if you just don't have anything else available, but it's not really for this purpose.

This works better and is made for glass,

Someone else posted a problem with this prodcut today,

Is it normal to have fuzz from the wash mitt everywhere when it's first washed? I put a couple SS terrys in the same load and they're covered in fuzz! the little wad of fuzz is just a representative sample; there was quite a bit more in the washer and on my terrys. I guess I'll deal with it if it's the price to pay for

Thanks Mike Sorry for stuffing so many questions into one thread. I will try to keep them one at a time. I will get some of the vinyl cleaner locally and I have that brush already.

                            Wax from Black Trim

                            Hannibal

Now dont laugh. But try this.. get some Smooth Peanut Butter and rub into the stained black trim with your fingers until its disolved, you may need to apply a couple of times but the wax will be completely removed ...... read this in a UK Car Mag and it really works - now stop laughing

                            good luck
