Was out of town for 6 days around Halloween. Came back to find my 2000 silver metallic BMW had an egg thrown against it. Boo.
Well I immediately looked into forum threads and discovered that the common opinion seemed to be that egg pretty well damages the paint and to not expect very good results.
However.........I had fully detailed the car during October in my free time, using all Megs products:
wash w/ GC shampoo
dried
clayed
some SX
83 with DA and 8006
80 with DA and 8006
nxt liquid (2) put on with DA, off with MF bonnet on DA and then hand buffed with fresh MF
The finish looked great, very smooth and reflective. So I pondered how to remove the dried egg from the driver's door and window and a little on the rear side panel.
I discovered that the egg had hit my side view mirror before the door, so the mirror housing took the brunt of the hit. Yes, there are circular cracks on it now, but after 6 years of ownership, not that noticable. Side mirrors take a lot of punishment. Only small scratches where the eggshell hit the door.
First I scraped the egg off the driver's window with a blade. Then I soaked clean old white cotton t-shirts in hot water and draped them over the egg splatter. I added more water every couple of minutes for about 15 mins of soaking.
Then I gently used the wet shirts to slide the softened egg off. And guess what?? It worked like a charm. Just threw the old shirts away instead of trying to clean.
I actually do not have any marring or discoloring of the paint. OK in daylight. I even waited til dark and used the Xenon light to see. All ok.
I think if I had not used the Megs products just prior to this egging, I would be in a different place altogether. My paint was well protected.
Thanks Megs!! What a pleasant surprise!
For good measure I will wash and rewax the car again this weekend.
126k miles and going strong.
