  • Any Suggestions?

Sorry for the blurry pictures. I thought maybe the nickel would help focus. Not this time. Anyways, these pictures are of the hood of a ’99 Toyota 4 runner. There are about a dozen spots like this scattered across the hood. Something has eaten through the clear coat. I can run my finger over it and feel the depression.

The owner does not know how long they have been there. He just noticed them last week when he washed and waxed his truck, then they really popped out. He said a year back he got hit in the back and had repair and paint done to the back left corner and left passenger door.

What I am wonder and asking for suggestions on is if I could treat these like rock chips? I have never tried to repair any chip this larger before. Since these spots are larger than your average rock chip I’m not sure if the touch up paint would blend in well.

Anyone else run into anything similar to this?

    Thanks
    Chris

It looks like the clear coat has chipped off in these areas. If this is the case there is no good solution. You can apply touch-up paint, but it's never going to look perfect. Chances are if it has chipped off in these areas it's going to chip off in other areas also.

Save yourself some time and headaches and get your hood repainted. I've attempted to touch up various spots, but it's extremely diffficult to blend the spots with the rest of the paintjob.
